The chances are that you will not be pregnant as you had sex just a day or two before your period, although it is not 100% guaranteed.
1. Was that period starting 16 April a normal one?
2. What date did your previous two periods start?
3. What is the length of your cycle (typically 28 days)?
4. Were 14/15 April the only days you had sex?
5. What date did you take the test?
6. How old are you?
7. Where are you from?
8. Are there any cultural/religious implications?

If your period were due to start 24 April, then 14/15 April would not likely have been fertile days. The fact that it arrived on 16 April would also indicate that they were not fertile days. The likelihood is that you are not pregnant if they were the only days you have had sex.

Withdrawal is not a safe method of BC. Precum can contain sperm [1] in some men always; in some men, never, or [2] if mixed with residual semen from a previous ejaculation, unless washed away by urination. Also, some may be released moments before the main ejaculation.
The brown discharge was probably old blood left behind from a previous period. So possibly only two days of period (18/19).
You say your period usually starts 23rd, but as months have different days (28/30/31), cycles would vary. 23Jan-23Feb = 31days; 23Feb-23Mar = 28 days; 23Mar-23April = 31 days; 23April-23May = 30 days. So how do you calculate when the period is due to start? What dates have your periods started this year?
It may be that 18th was too early to test if it were the first day of your period. I suggest another test to be sure.

It depends on your cycle. Periods are referred to as 'monthly', because they typically occur every lunar month (28 days). That means that many women with a regular cycle who have a period every 28 days can predict with a reasonable degree of accuracy when their next period will arrive.
But often even regular cycles are not 28 days, but can be anything from a regular 21 days to a regular 35 days.
A regular cycle will mean that a period will not always arrive on the same day of the month, and sometimes there will be two periods in one calendar month. If one period starts 1st January, with a 30 day cycle the next would be 31st January, then 2nd March, then 1st April, then 1st May, then 31st May. So you need to know your own cycle length.
Of course, many women do not have regular cycles at all, and some fluctuate within a small range.
Do you have the dates your periods started last year?
The dates you have given for this year suggest yours could possibly be a 34 day cycle (20Jan to 23Feb = 34 days). If so, that would mean your March period would have been due on 29th (23Feb + 34days = 29Mar). Following that through, The next one would be due on 2nd May (29Mar + 34days = 02May).

No, it does not mean you are definitely not pregnant, but just that you may have tested too early, or your period may yet come.
You previously said that your periods came on 23rd, and now you say many came on the 20th last year. I was asking for your exact dates so that I could establish some sort of pattern. 20Jan to 20Feb = 31 days; 20Feb to 20Mar = 28 days!

If that be so, then for the 10 months from 20 Mar 2014 to 20 Jan 2015 your cycles were 30/31 days. That is an average of 30.6 days. For some reason (unknown to me) your February period was 3/4 days longer. It may be that other females in your house are affecting your cycle. It may be that your cycles are now going to be longer. The other unknown is why your March period was missed. Supposing (a big supposing) that your cycle for Feb/Mar were 31 days (missed period starting 26th March) and likewise for Mar/Apr, then your period would be expected 26th April (yesterday). So at the moment, on that supposition, you are one day late. Anther possibility is that you were pregnant (thus missing March's period) and your test was a false-negative. Three weeks from your last sex should produce a reliable result, so I suggest testing again then.

Hi,
I'm Lyse, I'm 26. My boyfriend and I had unprotected sex on May 6th and he came in me. My period was due May 13th. I know it's too early to tell since I'm only a day late. Just would like to calm my nerves a bit. I have an app on my phone that says
I wasn't ovulating, but i also had sex when my period was almost over last month on April 19th(protected) and it shortened it. I was only on my cycle for 3 days last month (not normal for me, my cycle is normally 5-6 days). Anyway, I'm wondering if that may have thrown off my cycle and the accuracy of the app on my phone for the unprotected time i had sex.

Yes, the app has most likely been altered if you had a shortened cycle (if that is what happened). The app works on averages. Can you state the start dates of your periods this year? Your cycle is from one period start to another (typically 28 days). Your period might last for 5-6 days, but that is not your cycle. It is the first 5-6 days of your cycle.
You didn't say by how much your cycle was shortened (if indeed you meant 'cycle').
If your period were due 13th May (or so), then you were not likely to have been fertile 6th May.
You say 'I wasn't ovulating', but although ovulation only takes place on one day, you are also considered fertile the preceding 5 days.
I hope this helps as a start.

Hearing that I wasn’t fertile is a relief that’s what the app said (smiles).
Anyway, when I say cycle I’m referring to the length of my period, sorry. My last period started on April 15th and ended on April 19th. My next period was due May 13th, but as you know that’s now been altered because I had sex May 6th. The app says I was fertile April 24th-Apr29th. With the 29th being the most fertile. This month it says I’m supposed to be fertile May 22nd-May 27th. That’s why at first I figured I’m good. So for the most part I’m not really worried. I went a month without a period before and got it like the beginning of the following month. My sister says that means I didn’t ovulate. I don’t know if I agree because each time my period skipped like that I was very stressed out, or I had sex right around the time my period was supposed to start and that throws it off. Like if my period is due at the end of the month and I have sex at the end of the month I won’t get my period until the first week of the following month, or if my period is due at the beginning of the month and I have sex at the beginning right around the time it’s due, my period will push itself back until the middle of the month.

I didn't say you were not fertile on 6th May; only that if your period were due 13th May, then you were not likely to have been fertile on 6th May. The app does not tell you when your period is due; it estimates when it is due, based on data fed into it, or the typical 28-day cycle.
When the app says you were fertile 24th-29th April, it assumes ovulation on 29th April, and thus projects your period to start 13th May. The estimate for May is based on your period starting 13th May (which it didn't), so the calculated fertile time 22nd-27th May is likely to be wrong. It probably says that your period is due to start 10th June, which it probably won't.
There seems to be no scientific reason for a period to be directly delayed by sex, although many women are convinced that is the case. What is more likely to happen is that having sex has delayed ovulation, and therefore a delayed period would ensue. Hormones dictate when ovulation occurs, and the period follows in due course.
I would be inclined to agree with your sister. Stress affects your hormones, and could delay ovulation. The link you perceive with having sex might be more to do with the hormone levels affecting your libido.
Do you know your period start dates for the last 6 times?

They normally all started around the middle of the month like 12th or 13th sometimes the 14th being the latest.
