Has anyone actually got rid of their epididymitis?

Hey there did they find out what species of bacteria are causing the infection? They need to do a culture and sensitivity test to figure out what antibiotics are most effective.... also are you sexually active? What color is ur semen and is it painful to ejaculate? Thanks

Hi, thanks for replying.

Yes sexually active and likely this is related to a sexual event that occurred before the onset of symptoms, but not definite.

They did not yet find the species of bacteria as I only got my first culture done after 2 weeks of antibiotics and all the doctors I've been to say that I need to get OFF antibiotics for a while (say a week) before they can successfully culture a bacteria.

Ive been on (in this order):
Azithromycin
IM Rocephin + 14 days doxycycline
6 weeks levofloxacin, 2 of which I have combined levofloxacin with Augmentin

This covers so many bacteria that its really freaking me out I still cant get the swelling or symptoms to subside.

I have had absolutely no discharge from urethra (and never did), no problem peeing, and no other symptoms of STD (no fever then or since). It is not painful to ejaculate. I do have:
- incredibly swollen left epidymis creating continual on and off pain throughout the day and night
- swollen up through the vans deferens
- on and off swelling of right epidymis (but not nearly as bad as left)
- jelly like ejaculation, yellowish and definitely more jelly than usual.
- VERY LOW levels of ejaculation, I estimate about 1/5th of what I normally have.

What do you think about the antibiotics I have been on? What do you think is the next possible course of action? I dont want to come off antibiotics just to culture the bacteria, but it sounds like I may need to do this. Any help is much appreciated.

Also, FYI my last semen test showed WBC of 15/HPF.

Is this moderate/high/extreme? Does this definitely suggest bacterial infection?

What about other possibilities: fungi or TB? Would they exhibit higher/different WBC in semen?

Hey again.... wow that's a lot of antibiotics that cover a broad spectrum of bacteria..... you say that the doctors told u u have bacterial epididimitis but said they couldn't culture anything.... how do they know its bacterial then?

They r right that usually to get an acurate culture u have to get offf of antibiotics for a while but seings how the antibiotics don't seem to be working I don't think ur gonna hurt anything by discontinuing them for.a week to get culturable semen..... the main thing is you need to figure out what pathogen is causing ur epididimitis.... the comment from the other person on here about herbal diuretics and snti inflamatories... well ur already using anti inflamatories and diuretics just make u pee more which may be helpful for people with utis but not necessarily epididimitis.....

How old are you and was the sex u had unprotected?

Also you have to take into account how the antibiotic works and where it concentrates at... for example if someone has prostatitis from a bacterial infection both cephalhexin and primor may effectivaly kill the bacteria however. Cephalexin doesn't concentrate and get into prostate tissue so it can't kill bacteria in the prostate where primor can.... make sense?

Everything your saying makes sense about where the antibiotic concentrates and the difficulty of getting into the prostate. I've been researching heavily on this for weeks now given my condition, so read a lot of the studies myself and have decided after 6 weeks of levo I am coming off it as absolutely none of my symptoms are improving.

Just got my latest semen sample back - WBC has increased from 15 to 20 HPF. I also now have a higher RBC in semen (5 HPF) whereas 2 weeks ago it was 0 HPF. I suppose this means the Augmentin+Levo combo I was on just was not working. Got prescribed one other antibiotic to try for a week - now I have a cephalosporin called Banan (200mg daily). If this does not work I am at a loss as I will probably need to get off antibiotics to culture this thing, and I am afraid that the infection will explode leaving me in hospital and putting my crown jewels at risk...

Given all the antibiotics I have been on I am scared to death that I have picked up a antibiotic-resistant strain of something. But the urologist said that if it was truly antibiotic resistant after 8 weeks the thing would be going crazy and the swelling and inflammation would be getting significantly worse. Still, I cant see improvement so my mind goes logically to the possibility of antibiotic resistant strain - what do you think of this?

I am 31 and I believe this is sexually related. I am sexually active but always use protection for penetration, however about a week before the onset I received unprotected oral. In addition to this, the only other possibility I can think of is about a month before onset of symptoms I tore my frenulum (I am uncircumcised), it was quite a large tear and the wound took 2 weeks to heal up. While it was healing I couldn't pull back my foreskin and after 2 weeks when I did, I had a major case of balanitis with candida overgrowth in that area. That's why I believe there may be 2 possibilities: bacteria (from the oral) or fungi (from the overgrowth near my urethra over a period of 2 weeks). The only other possibilities are bacteria from gyms and saunas, which I frequent often.

Yea, diuretic and anti-inflammatory pill do help with this condition,a friend of mine had been suffering from epididymititis as well and later got his disease cured by this herbal formula.

freakedoutjmc - did you get any resolution with your condition? Were they able to figure out the cause? Please let me know - I've been having some of the same symptoms on and off for years and no one can figure out what is causing it.

You have trichcomiansis I messed around with to many women to know...metronidazole 500mg with levoqiun500mg will clear it and do magnesium flush after antibiotics

Trichomoniasis is the cause women are carrier of it big time.... thats if u are negative on chylmidia or gonhrea. Take metronidazole and levoquin will clear infection...how I know I had sex with 52 women no condom. an yes I learn the hard way used to be in the porn industry...

I suffered with epididmytsis for 9 weeks and finally got rid of it.. Alhamdulilah... I used danzen for a week I.e anti inflammatory.. Ciproxin and niroxin... Basically antibiotic do treat the infection but you have to take complete bed rest for at least two weeks with anti inflamtory to get rid of it.. Not taking bed rest is the main reason I think it went on for so long...

Have you got a EPIDIDYMITIS CYST? If so operation to remove it like me had op 5 years ago

Did your sperm quality improve after epididymitis go away?
