Hi Ang! It is true that Opiates can make your breathing laboured but they do not affect your breathing after you have stopped taking them! I did a bit of checking and I will tell you what I first thought OK?!

2 of the biggest reasons for low breathing or shortness of breathe are a condition called Dyspnea - check it out I think you will agree!

Also the other point - my first thought - was anxiety breathing! When you have anxiety - which I have suffered from for years - you are constantly catching your breathe and noticing yourself breathing - which you shouldn't, just like blinking - it can happen at ANY time for no apparent reason! NOW when you read about Dyspnea - do NOT instantly jump to the cancer or heart part OK? these are just reasons for it! You do NOT have eitther of these - these are REALLY major and you would not have had such a MAJOR disease like these for all of these years. Check out the other reasons why, also look into Anxiety and Breathing - see which one rings truer!

OH! you are still on Suboxone? Then definitely this could be the reason - when you are taking possibly too much for the withdrawls your bo?dy starts having laboured breathing! I would mention this to your doctor and see if he can put you on Ventaline! You need some help with this, when do you end the Suboxone

Try and reduce your Suboxone OK? You should be talking to your doctor about the laboured breathe and he will have to give you a puffer - Ventaline! I know this happened to me when I was on too much Opiates its a bad side effect so let him/her know ASAP OK?

Hi Ang! What happens is, when you are taking more pills than what your body needs, it makes your lungs - "Slow" so to speak! It's called "Laboured Breathing" It means shallow breathing! I think we have gotten to the bottom of this, due to you taking less and you have seen an improvement! Haave you ever been in pain and can't catch a breathe? Same thing! Did you ever go to a doctor about it?

If you're coming OFF suboxone useage - then you could just be suffering some withdrawals, which indeed this can make you very super tired and make you feel like every task is 100X more difficult. BUT, keep your eye on the prize and this too shall pass!!! Don't take anything else!! NO OTHER OPIATES!! just come off of it - and keep exercising and keep moving - the more you sweat, the faster it will be out of your system. If it gets too hard, take hot baths.
I'm thinking this is what you're asking - sorry if i'm way off base.

I had a very similar problem. For months I had trouble getting a full breath and felt tightness in my chest when it got bad. I used to always make myself yawn just for the relief that a deep, full breath would bring but it was only a series of small temporary solutions.

After several doctors visits and thorough examinations (chest xray, CT scan, pulmonologist tests, stress tests, etc) I found the problem was not my lungs or heart but Acid Reflux. I eventually got an endoscopy exam and the doctor determined that I had a Hiatal Hernia  that was caused by the reflux and causing pressure to form in my chest/lungs area. He prescribed me Omeprazole (Prilosec) which began to help greatly within a few days. I started with the over-the-counter Prilosec and then eventually got a prescription for a higher dose that would also be a lot cheaper for me to take for a few months.

Hope this helps!

Oky I have been having this problem. I was looking for answers, y , I went to the doctor they gave me nothing , I went tru different check ups , nothing , I come online and I see all these posts, none of them help, i now know why this happen, and why for a long time . If u have this problem , they say anxiety and Stress can cause it yes , but not for as long as we claim to have this problem, they defiantly are the Are the cause , then we became mouth breathers, and we no longer breath with our nose.and the days that we are having the problem is when we having different activities or task or change in a body like hangover, withdraw from drag , coffee. we put a confusion in our brain , it made mouth breathing a way to go , so simply the cure is , every time we you have to take a deep breath , you take it with nose as Mach as you can, and focus your breathing on for 2-4 days and breath trough nose . It works 100% and this is not coming from a doc, it's from a person that have this problem and I was looking for this solution for a wile my self until I found it I wanted to share . Enjoy your breathing
