I recently had a parathyroidectomy done one week ago and am concerned that this "egg shaped" swelling hasn't gone done yet. I can swallow and speak alright, and the incision is not infected, but it feels like I have a pill stuck in my throat all the time and I can't tip my head all the way back without feeling "tightness" at the surgical site. I can also feel hard ropelike scarring all along the incision. I'm due for my post-op check up in 5 more days, but was wondering if anyone else had these problems after this type of surgery and how long it took to go back to normal.

Hello, my grandma had the same surgery and she was in pain and discomfort for some time. I think the symptoms that you are experiencing are quite normal and that there is nothing to worry about. Just get plenty of rest. Im sure doctor will explain everything to you on your check up. Just stay calm for five days. I think it will take couple of weeks before you go back to normal, in the end you had surgery and you need time to recover. Good luck on your post-op check up
