This all started April. It was mild headache then it got worse. On going headache 24/7. Cant lean over and to any degree because it hurts.  Feels like I am wearing a band around my head.  Hurts on my left side and sometimes my eye socket.    I was taking 2 Excedrin three times a day.  I decided to stop this because its bad for you.  Then I went to the neurologist received a cat scan and nothing. He is giving me Propranolol. As of now that is not working.  This is driving me nuts.  I also have Tinitus loud ringing in the ears. Neurologist thinks its from lack of sleep.  I will be doing a sleep study but I don't think this is what is doing this.  I had two other sleep studies way back and I never had this problem.   PLEASE HELP

Hi.

The description of a band-like sensation around the head is often associated with tension-type headaches. Pain in the eye socket and being worsened by leaning over could be related to sinus issues or migraine headaches. It's also possible that the overuse of Excedrin (containing acetaminophen, aspirin, and caffeine) could contribute to rebound headaches.

Tinnitus can indeed be exacerbated by lack of sleep, but it can also have other causes such as inner ear issues, exposure to loud noises, certain medications, and other health conditions. It's good that you're pursuing a sleep study as it could provide useful insights.

Propranolol is often used as a preventive treatment for migraines. It doesn't work immediately and may need some time to become effective. It's also possible that it might not be the right medication for your specific condition, and your neurologist might need to adjust the treatment plan based on your response.

If the current treatment isn't working, it's important to keep your neurologist informed. They might consider other diagnostic tests, referral to a headache specialist, or trying different medications.

Managing stress, regular physical activity, maintaining a regular sleep schedule, and ensuring a healthy diet can all contribute to the overall management of headaches and tinnitus. Some people find relief with acupuncture, massage, or cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). These therapies can be especially helpful in managing chronic pain and stress-related symptoms.

Hope this helps.
