To anyone who can help:
I think i just had an arrythmic attack, or something like that. My heart sort of felt like the an entire half of it stopped beating and the other half sped up. I'm kinda freaked out about it, but i don't think has to do with anxiety because i'm pretty mellow. Also, about a month ago, when i tried to sleep i had the same feeling for a long time and i couldn't sleep so i went and got the family stethoscope and listened to my heart and it had a third sound. I looked it up and it was mitral stenosis, i think, but i've never had it checked by a doctor because after i woke up this really weird thing happened where my heart stopped, then started pounding, then it was fine again. Plus i'm only 16 and in relatively good health, so any advice would help.

I think it's great that you have a family stethoscopy and that you listened to your own heart, but it is very hard to hear heart murmurs even to a trained ear.

First off, I would tell your parents and they should take you to your pediatrician. The doctor may recommend a echocardiogram, and EKG and possibly wearing a heart monitor for at least a couple days to as long as a month. Perhaps maybe lab work, maybe electrolytes. Have you been ill lately? Diarrhea? Vomitting? Lastly, as I posted in another thread, maybe a trip to a cardiologist, one that specializes in heart rhythms. You may need a electrophysiology study to see if you have an inducible heart arrythmia. Many are cured with something called an Ablation.
Hope this helps

Sometiems I feel a weird heartbeat too. I am 16 as well and have been experiencing fainting. Often too. I have been getting it checked out. First they thought vasovagal syncope but it's been happening with no pattern and now its not looking like vasovagal syncope. I've been to a cardiologist, and a nuerologist. No results thus far. I had a 24 hour EEG two days ago though. Not yet had a Holter Monitor, but that may be a possibility. All my EKG's have been normal. But every once in a while, I feel this fluttering in my chest or neck. Weird. Any ideas?
