The first episode happened at work. I was eating lunch and I began to feel that my heart was beating somewhat faster and "louder" than usual. I figured it would go away on its own so I tried to ignore it.... 10 minutes later I was in a state of sheer panic the likes of which I have never experienced in my life. I was sure I was having some kind of heart attach or stroke. So sure in fact that I asked a coworkers to rush me to the nearest hospital emergency room.
After weeks of frequent doctor examinations -- blood, heart, urine, all many times over - you name it. The tests couldn't find a single thing actually wrong with my physical health.
The "episodes" continued - more and more frequent as time went on. Less than two months after the first episode I was in a state so dire it seemed that nothing more than a mild annoyance from a co-worker or shop clerk would send me into a full-out state of panic and fear.
These "episodes", as I later found out were "panic attacks". Set off by a heightened state of "sensitivity" caused (for me) by a combination of small changes in my life as of recent. A new apartment, a recent break-up, trouble with clients at work, a decrease in my regular exercise routine -- all seemingly (or so I thought) insignificant in and of themselves, but combined they apparently had a terrible effect on my ability to handle stress.
Of course, if you asked me (which several doctors did) if I was "stressed" about anything - I would answer "of course not". I didn't FEEL "stressed". I had never worried about such things. Stress, to me, was something that only "weak" people complained about - not me!
How wrong I was. The turning point came when after all the exhaustive testing turned up clean, I finally began to face my problem and admitted to myself that my episodes were likely not related to any physical ailment (which I had up until that point insisted on imagining I had) and were in fact "panic attacks".
I turned to the internet. After a single search (B"H), I came across the audio book, Pass Through Panic by Dr. Claire Weekes (also available in print on Amazon). THANK HASHEM in two hours this book began to reverse months of pain of suffering. It's been about three weeks since I listened to it and since then I've all but completely rid myself of the panic that had plagued my life so terribly. Now, don't get my wrong I've had a few MAJOR setbacks along the way. I've had episodes that caused my heart to beat so hard and stirred up such an outrageous feeling of intense fear and dread I had to hold on to my chair for dear life. But with my last thread of rational thought I would focus on the advice Dr. Weekes provided. Soon - usually just a few minutes later, the entire feeling would pass and I knew then that I was that much closer to conquering my condition once and for all.
I urge ANYONE who has had any kind of like panic attack symptoms to read this book NOW.
And when you do, and you find that you're recovering, please find someone, ANYONE, who is suffering with this same issue and share this book with them. You owe it to yourself to feel good again. This is not an issue that will likely go away on its own. It's time to face it and improve your life today!

This may be way off, but I had all of these symptoms and ignored them for 6 months. When I finally gave in, I found out I was in heart failure. I do have a heart history, maybe you don't but everything you are saying points to an issue in which you need to go and get this checked out right away.

There is an erratic beating on my hand side below the ribs. Should I worry? I had it first soon after a very light lunch and now it hasn't stopped for the last 45 minutes! It is very annoying and more perceptible if seating. What could it be?
