I have problem with heart palpitations for 20 years already. The palpitations used to be every once in a great while but since entering perimenopause at age 43 they have been quite frequent. These things are affecting my life in a very negative way, because it scares me a lot. I have heard that is vasomotor reaction to fluctuating hormones, so I wonder could it be true. Could you tell me more about heart palpitations during menopause?

I have to say I had the same problem with heart palpitations. That is why I want to share my experience with you, hoping that might help. Although I am not a doctor to say exactly, I hope you will find a way with help of my answer. I had heart palpitations and I was wondering could fluctuating hormones at menopause cause this. I was wondering if I need more follow-up, because I have had a holter done and they saw nothing concerning, just benign palpitations. I have never had an echo done although I do have high blood pressure, which has been successfully controlled with Maxide. I have been on this medication for few years. Then I found out my doctor thinks that anxiety issues are my problem and I was wondering if he was right. I just knew that these palpitations made me very anxious indeed. Then I have heard many women note fluctuations in their palpitations associated with various points in their hormonal cycles. I think that we see enough of this to say that it is more than just a casual observation. Generally, a holter looks at the rhythm, but an echo would help rule out structural problems that are a cause. I found a doctor who would imagine that there is not too much wrong if I have had these symptoms.
