I was having the exact same problem!!!! NEVER had rhoids in my life... on Lisinopril for less than 2 months and they are so painful I dread the bathroom. I actually developed the dry cough as well and asked my doc to change my med because of the two. Switched medications yesterday and have adjusted my diet to help in healing. Let's hope it works!! Sometimes doctors have NO idea what they're talking about in relation to side effects. Lisinopril is actually listed as possibly causing constipation, and prolonged constipation can cause rhoids. Seriously docs, do your research!

I use another ACE drug, Ramipril. (Lisinipril gave me the persistent cough.) I tolerate 5mg taken at night. BP runs high partially due to a moderate aortic valve insufficiency, so the cardiologist keeps trying to fight it with meds. Most I cannot tolerate (anxiety, palpitations, swelling, cough, dizziness, confusion, sleeplessness). Dr. just had me double the dose to 10 mg. Within two days, I started with intolerable rectal bleeding both after BMs and in between. NOT convenient at all. Backing off to 5 mg again. Preparation H is my companion and the emergency go-to solution to quell episodes.

I believe you are right. I started using lisinopril for high blood pressure and now I have hemorrhoid pains everday. Its bad for me because I have to sit down alot to drive a truck. Mostly this is when it hurts the most. But I most take the medicine for high blood pressure. I found that aspirin help to ease the pain some and also Preparation H.

Took linosopril 5mg for about 2 years, but not everyday. Had 1 internal hemorrhoid for over a year. Just switched to 10mg two months now and now I just had a very painful external hemorrhoid with blood clot. People don't realize how much pain it is, especially the ER doctor. Thankfully after 5 days of pain, another doctor said I have a blood clot and he got rid of it. The pain afterward was a lot worst, but i felt better after about 1 day. Finally thinking it's the medication. Also having chronic dry cough that hurts.

Oh wow. I've had hemorrhoids for about ten years, but they were not that bad, provided I was drinking a glass of Metamucil a day. Then I developed high blood pressure and started taking lisinopril. I've been taking it for about two months. It annihilated my high blood pressure, but now I'm pretty sure it has caused my hemorrhoids to flare up like crazy, they itch and burn even though they never have before. Sometimes I have difficulty pushing them back up in. I gotta talk to my doctor about this.

Hi, guys (and girls).

Lisinopril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor commonly prescribed for high blood pressure. While lisinopril is generally well-tolerated, it can occasionally cause gastrointestinal side effects such as diarrhea or constipation, which can potentially worsen hemorrhoid symptoms.

Here are some general tips that may help provide relief from hemorrhoid symptoms:

  1. Increase fiber intake: Consuming a high-fiber diet can help soften stools and make bowel movements easier, reducing strain on hemorrhoids. Include foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes in your diet.
  2. Stay hydrated: Drinking plenty of water helps maintain soft stools and prevents constipation. Aim to drink an adequate amount of water throughout the day.
  3. Avoid straining: Straining during bowel movements can worsen hemorrhoid symptoms. If you're experiencing difficulty passing stool, consider using a stool softener or fiber supplement under the guidance of your healthcare professional.
  4. Practice good hygiene: After bowel movements, gently clean the anal area with warm water and mild soap or use moist wipes. Avoid using harsh toilet paper that can further irritate the area.
  5. Avoid prolonged sitting or standing: Sitting or standing for extended periods can put pressure on hemorrhoids, aggravating symptoms. Take breaks and try to move around periodically.
  6. Warm baths or Sitz baths: Soaking in warm water for 10-15 minutes several times a day can provide relief and reduce inflammation.
  7. Over-the-counter remedies: There are various over-the-counter products available, such as creams, ointments, or suppositories, that can provide temporary relief from itching and discomfort. However, it's important to consult with your healthcare professional before using any of these products.

Remember, these tips are general suggestions and may not be appropriate for everyone. It's important to consult with your doctor for an accurate diagnosis, proper evaluation of your symptoms, and personalized treatment recommendations.
