We live in an apartment block and have quite a few neighbors - I am sure that this fact plays a big role in our cockroach infestation. Can anyone help? The only obstacle is that I am very much opposed to using poisons, which are bad for humans as well. I mean, cockroaches survived Chernobyl without any problems, os so they say. Any poisons that kill them must be really serious, and bad for humans. Can anyone suggest herbs for pest control that work?

The only semi natural thing that has ever worked for cockroaches, which are notoriously difficult to kill, is borax or boric acid. These are two different names for the same thing, in case you were wondering. Just spread it around in corners, under furniture, in cracks in the floor; in any place roaches are known to live. The other aspect that you need to be aware of is that, while cockroaches love bit of food, the only thing they really need is water. If you have a leak anywhere in your house, they will feed off this. Any standing water is heaven for roaches, so focus on taking away their water sources.
