I have been on the birth control pill for over ten years now and as you know, this does include high estrogen dosages. I was wondering if there is any chance that this can play in inducing or creating breast cancer? I once heard something along those lines but have no further details. Do you think I need to come off the pill?

There is no need for you to stop taking the birth control pill because oral contraceptives have not been shown to definitively increase or decrease a woman's lifetime risk of breast cancer. There are very good caches that you don’t even take estrogen-based birth control pills, or estrogen is just present in them in one part. Many of modern day birth control pills are progesterone based. In fact, high-doses of estrogen were used as the first endocrine treatment of choice in postmenopausal women with advanced breast cancer, and the most recent studies have shown that this use is still justified. But, if you are worried, you always can check all of this with your doctor.
