My husband’s life is really difficult, especially in the last couple of years due to constant painful RCEs. And unfortunately, the last couple of days were a real hell for him, so his doctor recommends a PTK procedure although I am afraid how all that would end. How long does PTK recovery take?

I had this procedure done couple of years ago and I have to say that it was the best thing I could have done. There was still some pain after the surgery but nothing near to RCE. I also took perocet, but only for a short while, did not even need it actually. Most likely, he will have discomfort for couple of days and vision should be ok after about ten days.

I have had RCE for the last year just about every month and I had the PTK surgery this morning actually and other than tylenol and valium this morning which they offer you before the surgery. I am doing fine a little sore but not too bad they put a pressure patch and usually a contact in right after the surgery andd take the patch off the next day and put a contact in for a few days after while it heals further. I would say that the pain Im in right now even after the surgery this morning is not near as bad as I expected and definitely less than a full blown cornea abrasion. Hope this helps and there is a ton of information that can help you and your husband make a decision if you look up in google phototherapeutic keratectomy (PTK).
