Hi, I recently started taking Cyclen, and can't get a straight answer out of anyone about how long it takes to be effective! There's nothing written in the insert and I've heard "immediately" from my doctor, "a month" from my pharmacist, "a week" from a health hotline, "three months" from a different health hotline, etc etc etc!
Can someone tell me what the answer ACTUALLY is?
Second of all, I had unprotected sex while on the pill, on the night of the 10th pill (I haven't missed any) and my boyfriend finished inside me (we had the intention of waiting until I finished the box, but things got carried away since we've been waiting for almost a year for me to finally get on the pill. I inserted to sheets of spermicidal film afterwards (I know it's less effective, but I figured why not). Is there a chance I could be pregnant? Should I take plan B?

Everyone responds a bit differently to medications, including the pill, but in general a week. Especially if you are consistent.
It's too late for Plan B, it's only effective up to about 72 hours.
At this point all you can do is wait.
Even with birth control there is a chance but it is very low, less than about 1%.
Hope it helps.

I made my wife pregnant when she was on the pill, I was too impatient and disliked using a condom, I should have been using a condom for a month, not the 1 week, so although she was on the pill she still fell pregnant after me not using the condom for longer, anyway after 9 months she gave birth to our son, no regrets
