Hi everyone,
I am just finishing my taper, I have been taking 30mg oxycodone a day for just over a year. Sunday will be my last taper dose and then I will be in w/d soon after. Will my w/d be a bit less after the taper? I am feeling some mild body aches and hot flashes now as I try to use my dose at night so that I can sleep. Reading in this forum is really helping but seeing the posts that say I am going to be in "hell on earth" scares me. What else do I need to know? I want to stay clean for good. This is my first time trying to kick this. I

I used the Imodium for two months as needed. It completely removed the w/d, and I mean that literally. You can buy it cheaply on Amazon in large quantities. It is like a taper in itself, as I had to use it for a couple of months. If you have to function at work, this is a great way to get around dealing with w/d because some of us must continue productivity whether work or other responsibilities. I have found no matter how much oxy you have taken, the process is about one month for your body to purge all of the oxy, which is stored in fat cells.

Long time on this, but holy c**p you're the first person I can relate to! I've had almost an identical experience and thought I was going crazy or was a freak because of this withdraw hysteria. S much of this carp is wrapped up in our brains. I'm not denying physical dependence, but YOU MUST PARTICIPATE! Get your brain involved, mind eff yourself if you hafto! I've done it. I thought I was so weak for so many years until I had just had it. You can do this and you will not need these pills. It took a while for me to get on board with this idea (I should add, on my own, in secret, not telling husband, family, docs, no one), but I finally did and it's not as daunting as I perceived from reading endless threads about withdraw. You're life can and will get better. If I can do it, anyone can. xx

I too have been on Oxycontin for 12 years for a permanent and painful disease called arachnoiditis in my lower spine. I once (not that long ago) said the very same thing that you said and defended my "little lifesavers" that made my pain so much more tolerable and gave me a better quality of life. I did not abuse them either, and totally believed they were my only hope for a decent life. I could not have been more wrong! I agree it IS effective in numbing the pain. The problem is, it numbs your heart and emotions as well, and slowly steals your soul. It happens quietly, subtly, and one day you start asking yourself what the Hell is wrong? You know you're not yourself, you can't seem to connect with people any more, not even your own family and friends. A gulf or invisible wall has somehow inserted itself between you and the rest of the world and you don't understand why.You feel isolated and lonely, even when you're not alone. Then, you begin to notice that you can't function any more and that quality of life you think those little pills are giving you, isn't there any more - it's an illusion. Finally, you begin to want to be real again, to feel again - and once that desire becomes strong enough, you're ready to take the necessary steps to free yourself from this poison you're imprisoned by. It really is a demon. I got to that point, and 8 days ago, stopped cold. It's been a rough week but so worth it! I'm finally feeling a little better each day, and I'm finding that my old pain isn't as bad as I had feared. Damaged nerves can heal. I'm proof. Don't buy everything the doctors tell you. Anyway, the point of my post is to illuminate the darker side of this drug. It is not just horribly addictive mentally and physically, it is evil. Sorry for not giving more detail on the withdrawal part. I just wanted to show that this drug must be and can be conquered, you just have to want it bad enough. It really is your life at stake. If I can walk away from it, anyone can. Hoping this helps someone out there. God bless

l'm a Nurse...And l'll tell you it takes longer than 3-4 days!!! l don't know what dosage you were on but... lt depends on how long you were on these drugs etc.!! Good for you if you stopped having bad side effects after that short of a period. But don't call people fools... Everyone has different withdrawal experiences. And if you're not a Doctor... Well you know the rest!!!

You bet I have been one narcotic after another for 16 years including methadone. Prescribed for muscle pain damage from West NIle took me nearly two years to slowly get off Methadone. I quit Oxycodone six days ago, felling better but still having diarrhea and feeling like I cant sit still about twice a day. If I don't take several Ativan at bedtime, I get up every 45 minutes and walk out the discomfort in my legs and arms. My advice, toss the pills so you don't give in, stick it out, and find out most your pain was narcotic withdrawals the whole time.
