So I am not a serious runner by any definition, I run a few miles a week when I can find the time. However, I just got a new girlfriend that is REALLY into running. I know a running date is inevitable, the problem will be minimizing the damage of me looking like an id**t.
These are my problems:
I can't seem to run quickly enough without burning out. I can either pace myself and run SLOWLY (think 10 minute miles) or I can run at a comfortable pace and burn out after the first mile.
I have never really looked at running form before. I read to land on the middle of your foot, but when I tried it I ended up landing flat-footed which felt inefficient and awkward. What I am I doing wrong?
How much should I be training to be able to run 3-5 miles casually at a decent speed without keeling over?
What IS a decent speed/pace to train for for a non-serious runner?
Any help is appreciated!
