Hi, I'm new to this forum and running in general. I used to run about 5 miles a day when i was 19ish, i'm 27 now, and i'm looking to lose a few pounds(10 or so), tone up and generally get healthier. I never actually got to a point before where i truly enjoyed running, but i think that is because i felt like i was constantly struggling. Now that i am getting back into it, i am facing the same beginning struggles. i get headaches during my run that lasts for a few hours after. i do put cotton in my ears when it's cold, because i hate cold air going into my ears. My questions are 1-is there any way i can remedy the headache situation, and 2-how long will it take before i actually enjoy running? any help would be great. thanks.

well....a couple of questions need to be asked.

when was the last time you ate before running?
what's your water intake before running?
do you bounce on your stride? wear sun glasses or a hat for to stop eye fatigue from bright sunlight?

what's your blood pressure like?

i think these are enough ideas to start with.

I generally run after work, so lunch is the last time for food. I would rather run in the mornig but since i get to work at about 7 am so if i were to run in the morning i would have to go at 5 am, i'm not that devoted. water, i never know how to approach that concerning running, if i drink a lot right before, then it sloshes around in my stomach then it gets upset later, i do drink a lot after, and i am working on drinking more throughout the day. i do not drink pop or other sweetened things, if that comes up. i don't bounce i know that, my posture is fairly good, arms down hands 'holding butterflies' and the sort. blood pressure is normal, but i do have a fairly rapid heart rate, i always have. generally i wear glasses, but when i wear my contacts i wear sunglasses unless it's cold and i'm wearing a headband to keep the air out of my ears. hope this helps

about 1-2 hours before going out have a small carb snack and water. your trying to increase daily water intake and that is good, it could also be the cause of the headaches. snack time would also be a good time to take the Motrin suggested by aj

i'd also wear sunglasses, squinting for long time periods can cause headaches.

I find that it always helps to have something to eat about an hour before a run. If a don't eat before exercise I am almost guaranteed a headache - strange, but true.
