Ok - so my tongue feels like it does after one drinks coffee or soup with out realizing how hot it is. It constantly hurts, I can't taste anything and it feels extra rough and it's just very discomforting.
I have a few theories but don't know if it's something i need to see a dr. for or if i should just wait it out.. i don't want to waste the dr.'s time if it's something silly.
1. I made some lemonade the other day but didn't mix it very well - so when I took drink from the straw all I got was powder - maybe that irritated my tongue?
2. I drank some lemonade out of a water bottle (with straw) the other night and I was super thirsty and drank a lot and super fast - maybe the straw on my tongue made this happen?
3. I licked an envelope (which I normally never do - but I had no tape and needed to put the letter in the mail) maybe I had a reaction to the glue??
How can I get this to go away??? How can I make it better??
I have taken some advil in hopes of helping relieve the pain - no luck
I took a zyrtek in case it was an allergic reaction -hoping that it would help - no luck
what do i do???

Hi Marisaxm3! Well all three theories of yours are possible. I believe that the irritation caused by the lemonade powder wouldn't last too long, you can wash it away with clean water. The reaction on envelope glue is quite possible and if that's the case you should do the allergy test. Do you eat a lot of salt? This happens to me when I eat too much salt and acidy stuff like vinegar...
You have already took advil and zyrtek, wait and see if it works. If you don't get better any soon you should go and "waste" the dr.'s time because it's probably not that silly. After all, you're going to need that tongue :-D , it's worth saving it. All the best to you!

Thanks April!
I did call the dr. they said to try mouth wash and if it got worse to come in. Funny thing is it's better but it's almost as it moved back further in to my mouth.... Not sure what to think about that - food still doesn't taste right - but it's getting better....
Guess we'll wait a little longer and see...

I have this same issue right now. My tongue hurts as if I burned it (I didn't); the roof of my mouth feels somewhat numb behind my front teeth; and NOTHING tastes good. I cannot taste a thing. My taste buds seem to be gone.
