I wanted to share my experience in hopes I can benefit others.

I got on Sub for vicodin addiction. I was on Sub for about 3 years. On Jan. 9, 2009 I decided I wanted off! I had been taking about 1 mg. to 2 mg. a day for about a year when I decided I wanted off.

So I reduced my dose by .5 mgs . The first two weeks I went down to 1.5 mgs. Felt crappy the first week, 2nd week stabalized.

Then I reduced to 1 mg. same thing, first week crappy (tired, irritable) second week stabalized.

Now we are into February. I reduced to .5 mgs/day. Spent TWO weeks feeling crappy, had a day of severe depression, but I knew it was from the withdrawal!! I stayed at .5 mgs./day for 6 weeks! I just had too.

From end of April to end of May I guess 4 weeks, I reduced to about .25mgs/day. Then in June .12mgs/day. Then 2 weeks in July I started skipping days, every 2 -3 days, then I finally jumped off and it has been 2 weeks. So overall it took me 6 1/2 months to come off of 2 mgs./day.

I am a wimp, so I needed to take this time. So my SLOW taper made me functional but I was not very happy for the first weeks after I reduced!! I am so happy now. I am so glad I was able to keep the goal in front of me. I knew I could do it.

Wow! Thanks for reporting this for everyone on the forums. I think that it can serve as an inspiration for people who want to get better but are struggling with it. Thanks for posting on your experiences. Do you have any other tips or tricks that would help get off it? That would be nice to hear. Thanks!

Blue Dog, thanks for your response. It now has been almost 4 weeks of being off Subtex. I don't even think about it. I can see not too many people read my post, but hopefully I helped some one.

Whenever I read stuff on line, I was convince I would never be able to get off sub. , so I stopped reading and kept my goal in focus!!

I "think" that most people could come off sub. quicker than I did.

I just wanted to share what I did. I am a mom and I work part-time, and this is the way I did it. I can't even imagine being on sub again.

MY sub addiction was definately physical, ie: I had no desire to take it except when I felt physically bad, but I worked through that. If sub gave me the MENTAL addiction (a good feeling) I may have had a harder time. Just saying.

I am almost 4 weeks and NO feelings of withdrawal at all!!! Slow taper is what worked for me.
