Hello, I am suffering from gout, form of arthritis. It is a metabolic disorder, which is combined with creation of kidney stones and increased level of urine acid in the blood and accumulating urea based chemicals in the joints. Thus the pain. I have been taking colchicine, when will all the swelling/stiffness subside? Any idea?

Colchicine is alkaloid; it removes the pain and inflammation in arthritis in a matter of hours (12-24). But, the problem is it just deals with the symptoms, it cannot help with those bad substances in the joints. That must be removed with the help of some other medications. As for side effects, I have to mention nausea, stomach pain, hair loss, bone marrow depression etc.
