I've been researching home remedies for my mother who I believe has Burning Mouth (Tongue) Syndrome. She had 2 cerebellum strokes in October and after she got her swallow ability back, she could eat most everything. She then had surgery to correct her vocal cord and to remove a parathyroid tumor, and afterwards developed thrush. It was treated with oral Nystatin. She now complains that her sense of taste is weird: salty foods are too salty, things without any grease or oil taste greasy, and her tongue and lips feel like they were burned. We've asked 4 or 5 different doctors about this, and they all give vague explanations that amount to it probably being a result of the strokes. So I've been researching... and just found that one website had several people comment that they treated their own symptoms using Stress B complex vitamins, or folic acid (this site wrote that one of the possible causes of BMS was a B-12 or folic acid deficiency), so I'm on my way to get a sub-lingual B complex, along with a mouthwash by Colgate called Peroxyl, that one person said could be used up to 4 times a day and "works like magic."
For all of you looking for help for burning mouth or burning tongue, try looking up home remedies rather than clinical, because after all of our vague responses from doctors... I'll let you know how the vitamins and peroxide mouthwash does for my mother.

I have the same symptoms but the Nystatin Lozenges burned my mouth and throat to badly. I;m now taking Diflucan for 14 days and eating yogurt every day. Rinsing my mouth with Burttermilk eases the pain for a short while and hopefully I 'm getting some good bacteria with it. My mouth feels like I have eaten cayenne peppers and then rubbed alum around in my mouth. Hope we can find some answers soon because it sure is painful.
