I have been pregnant for 35 weeks and I have noticed that my insulin needs are increasing (I have gestational diabetes).  I am vomiting all the time and have like flu symptoms.  I feel like I have a fever and I sweat all the time.  I am drinking fluids when I can but sometimes I vomit it back up.  Is my illness or is it my gestational diabetes making my insulin requirement rise?  I don't like that I have to take more insulin.  What can I do to prevent this from happening?  My sugars have been running in the 210's lately so I have to take 4 units of insulin to bring it down.

Hello, Guest!  I am sorry to hear that you have been so ill and being pregnant on top of it!  That can be disheartening to say the least!  I think you may have an infection or something that could be making your blood sugars be elevated much of the time.  Have you been to your doctor about this?  You need to if you haven't even if you have a scheduled appointment coming up.  In any case, if you do have an infection (like a urinary tract infection, for example), you will need to go on antibiotics.  It isn't good that you are not keeping anything down as well especially fluids.  This can cause you to become dehydrated and you will need to be put in the hospital to receive intravenous fluids to hydrate you again.  Try sucking on ice chips to get some fluids in you and make an appointment with the doctor today.

Is there anyone else who has had this type of thing happen during their pregnancy?  What did the doctor do for you?  Did you end up dehydrated and admitted into the hospital?  Share your experience.
