Good advice. I have taken 1 low dose tramadol a day on and off for a year. Just found out i am pregnant so stopped taking. I had 3 days that were kind of awful but way better its me than my baby!!

I took 600mg and over, every day, while I was pregnant with my daughter. She is now 3 years old. She was in ICU for 10 days due to feeding issues, she wasn't able to suck milk from the bottle and any she did would come back up so they wanted to keep her in until she could keep her food down, this problem was a direct affect of tramadol use. She also had a shake in both her hands that lasted about 3 days. Since her release from hospital she has developed normally, like every other baby, she has hit all the developmental mile stones.

I was on tramadol from 16 weeks pregnant till about 34 weeks. I stopped at 34 against doctors orders because of reading about the withdraws baby would go through. I was taking anywhere from 50-150mg per day. The withdralws I went through weren't too bad, but a week before I made sure I never took more then 50mg. After about 4 days of feeling sore and tired it seemed to get a lot better. My baby was born 3.2kg and very healthy happy girl. Once she was born I started taking them again and was breastfeeding. Again everything I read said it barely passes through milk but when I stopped after 4 months she definitely had withdrawals that kicked in about a week after my last tablet. She was constantly sleepy, flu symptoms, not eating, irritable, not her normal happy self, shaking, and rash all over. This seemed to pass after about two weeks. So this medicine definitely affects the baby. If you are taking it during pregnancy, please stop. If you can't, at least try and stop around the 30 week mark and if you continue to take it after pregnancy then don't breastfeed.

Honestly I'm no sure, my guess would be yes though. Because anything the mum goes through, the baby would. But I would think the baby would be a lot safer going through it in the womb then out.
Honestly the withdrawals isn't as bad as everyone says it is. By the 10th day you feel absolutely normal, it's really just the first 4 days that are hard. and I did find stopping the tramadol while pregnant a lot easier then stopping it when I want pregnant.. I know this may sound bad, but during the first 4 days I would smoke a little if the green stuff (at night) as it is a anti seizure med and I think that helped me so much. I've done that every time I've stopped.

I was able to stop completely but I did plan it well and cut down the last week as much as I can. All I can tell you is not to over think what will happen to you or the baby when you stop. I promise it's not as bad as people say and after the first 4 days you will feel ok. The first 4 days are the hardest but they are not impossible. What I found harder was waking up every morning so sick and sore when on the tramadol and waiting for the medicine to kick in to feel semi normal. For some reason that medication caused me more pain then what I had before I started the meds. I never had back pain, leg pain ect until I started tramadol. Once you are passed the first week of ceasing the medication you can go to your doc and ask for a antidepressant called Effexor. This is for the mental side of the withdrawal. It helped me so much. It has the same qualities as tramadol (antidepressant side) and will make you feel great. I promise. Just give it a go, you won't regret it but you will regret staying on the medicine.
