I posted earlier about taking Tramadol while pregnant. During my third trimester, I was taking one-half to one tablet almost every day because of my shoulder pain, and the fact that the Tramadol helped my stomach pain so that I could eat. I was also taking Ambien (about 20 mg per night) for anxiety and so that I could sleep through the discomfort. My OB knew about my meds, and I never felt that she was judging me.
I am happy to report that I had my baby girl in February, and she was perfectly healthy. She's now three months old, has hit every milestone early, eats well, smiles a LOT, and sleeps through the night. In other words, she's the best baby ever and has never exhibited any health problems other than acid reflux, which is getting better.
Good luck, ladies! I concur with what another poster said, about anxiety being worse than the Tramadol.

I feel for all of you going through this and I can completely understand the feelings of guilt. Has anyone tried to take small doses of just Tylenol? I hear it helps your mood too so worth a try?

I've had a read through all your posts and they've been
really useful to me. I just wanted to get in touch and let you know what I've
been up to in the hope it may help someone. I was taking a maximum therapeutic
dose of both tramadol and gabapentin for painful disc/nerve issues and had been
for around 3 years. When I found out I was pregnant (around 9 weeks gone) I stopped
the gaba and cut down the Tramadol from 8 to 1/2 a day within a week. Since I
can't function for the whole pregnancy without any pain relief I have been prescribed
co codamol to take as and when I need it for pain, but the last thing I want is
a physical dependency on that (I'm trying on one a day in the evening when the
pain is worst). The giving up both Tramadol and Gabapentin was extremely
difficult - I felt like I was dying; I'm not sure which symptoms were related
to the tram and which to the gaba, but it was definitely a tough week+. I cut
down each day, and 10 days later I'm feeling fantastic - I've been in a fog for
the past 3 years, and I'm out of it now. I can't remember when I last felt so
good! The only lingering problems are not being able to sleep for very long, but this is getting better, and feeling a bit spaced now and then (oh,
and I’m still sneezing a fair bit and feeling a bit coldy), but compared to being a zombie, I really
don’t mind - I'm feeling really contented. I can't believe I wasn't made aware that I'd have such a tough time
stopping taking these pills.
I just wanted to get in touch with you all to let you know that it is possible to stop taking these nasty
pills if you want to, and if I can do it (I have a very limited supply of
willpower) then anyone can. You feel pretty ropey for a while, but it does pass
and each day is better than the previous one, until suddenly you feel great –
honestly, I can’t remember the last time I was naturally happy, rather than the
med-induced ‘happiness’; it’s totally different and so much better. If you're
taking the pills for pain, then speak to the doc about something that may be
safer to take during pregnancy. Also, paracetamol helps with the flu-like
symptoms. Finally, in my experience, if you need help then ask for some - I was
dead embarrassed about the fact that my body was addicted to prescription meds,
but no one batted an eyelid - they were all full of sympathy and wanted to help
me to do everything I could to make the pregnancy run as smoothly as possible.
