Okay, two months ago my girlfriend ran out of birth control while on her period due to being out of the state and not being able to get a refill. When she got back her period was ending and she just took her birth control as normal. Last month we had sex a few times but i never finished inside her and that month her period was light and only lasted one day. Now this month her period is getting closer and she said she is feeling some light cramping in her vaginal region and she feels kinda uncomfortable. I guess im just confused to what is going on and think this might be due to her missing a week of birth control while on her period. Any advice would be helpful as to im worried about her health and she is too proud to talk to her mom or see her doctor.

Usually, the birth control pill pack has 21 active and 7 inactive birth control pills. Active pills are the one that contain hormones that stop the ovulation and prevent pregnancy, and when she starts taking inactive pills, that is when she gets her period. These inactive pills don't contain hormones, they are sometimes called "sugar pills". So, most likely, it was no big deal that she didn't take the pills while she was on her period. The other thing about birth control pills is that they tend to make periods lighter and shorter - some women take them just for that purpose. And cramping before the period depends on if she started the inactive pills that trigger period, or it may just be the side effect of the hormones from BC pills. How long has she been on the pill?

She has been on it for roughly two years. It may be that we had sex the other day and the pains didn't start till after it so maybe i was a little too rough or went in to far and irritated something, :(.
