You are isolating yourself. Isolation is suicide when it comes to depersonalization. Depersonalization is a symptom of your own thoughts, so eliminating those thoughts will make it go away. The best thing to do is live your life as if you didn't have it, but make some adjustments such as getting more sleep (if you can, I know how hard it is to sleep with this BS), exercising, eating properly, grounding yourself, and avoiding things that raise your anxiety levels. If you do all of that in combination with distracting yourself and getting outside daily, DP will start getting better immediately, I promise.

DP is 100 percent curable. It just takes time. Im on my 2nd bout of drug induced dp now. Got it 5 years ago from smoking weed and it lasted about a year. Was only becuase one of my best mates had it and told me about it which made it alot easier to deal with. You need to be distracted 24/7. The more you think about it, the worse and longer it will last. It wont cure overnight but if you stay persistant it will go away. When you start thinking about it, quickly do something to take your mind off it. That could be playing a game, talking to somebody, reading a book. I personally find that if i masterbate, the feeling almost instantly goes away. Weird but it works. Eat healthy and exercise as much as you can. Eventually u will get more distracted with other things in life and notice you think less about dp. This will continue to happen until you completely forget u even had it. Then you will be able to even think about dp without it triggering dp. I just wished i never smoked again after my first experience with dp but ive learnt my lesson. Stay strong and realize your not alone nor are you losing your mind. Its just your brain trying to protect yourself and it needs some time to rewire. Hope this helps

I just wrote the last comment above and wanted to add to that but this link definitely helped me out with my first bout of dp.

Also, if your dp was drug induced try to stay away from all drugs and mainly pharma drugs. If drugs got u into this state i wouldnt think they will help get you out. And if your thinking about seeing a shrink or therapist, beware. They will try tell u that u have something else like psychosis etc. Just tell them you are having thoughts that make you feel weird and you want to learn CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy). Cbt teaches you how to control your thoughts which i think is extremely important when dealing with dp. Again, take care and stay persistant.

Hi I deal with DP/DR myself and have been for almost 5 years, and it’s terrifying. I’m scared to go anywhere. Could you give me some tips on how to get it under control?
