1 - Acid reflux, at least a mild form of it, with acidity increasing in specific parts of your mouth during normal or above average use.
2 - As someone else said above, an allergic reaction.
3 - I only feel this when I got a whole day, or longer without eating (which only happens on adderall). I'm like a Hoover the rest of the time, but I do notice it occurs during long periods without food -- another reason to suspect #1 since the build up of acid is likely without much food or water.
I didnt't think about it when it happened, but if I get the pain in the roof of my mouth again I may try eating some ice cream very slowly... its easy to swallow and the cold should benefit you.
I've also been told that this pain was possibly caused by allergies, or hay-fever... I never looked into it, but it's worth Googleing.
Since I've dealt with acid reflux since I was a teenager (currently 28) I can only say the following takes the edge off, but won't always mask the symptoms of acid reflux (which anyone with a bad case knows it can mimic heart attack symptoms, so couple that with adderall side effects = no fun):
1 - Eating yogurt with acidophilus at the first signs of indigestion. This will add good bacteria, and coat your stomach and esophageal wall.
2 - A medium to large size glass of milk has a similar effect, minus the good bacteria.
3 - Eat saltine crackers, slowly!
4 - Naturally, Tums or a fast-acting antacid (liquid Mylanta or store-brand) helps depending on the last time you took your adderall dose. I've taken it within about 45 mins-1 hour of drinking half a bottle of Mylanta because my reflux was so bad. This can potentiate the adderall, and possibly cause acid reflux to get worse but not to an unbearable amount...the potentiation is mild, if any...since antacids are best consumed significantly in advance of taking the adderall... only speaking from my experiences, since its both helped miraculously and made it worse before. I've taken Priolsec when I was young and it worked great, then insurance wanted me to try OTC Priolec which I can say did in fact keep my acid reflux from popping up, but of course it takes a good 4+ days to get working on your system, so medicines like these are not a realistic option during an attack.
5 - Opiates - Not 100% about this yet, but sometimes when all else fails I've taken half or a whole 10mg hydrocodone, and maybe it was all in my head, but it seemed to calm my indigestion and help with shooting pains associated with it some times.
6 - Sometimes I'll try to eat small amounts of absobant food... not a lot, just tiny bites... saltine crackers work best, a ham/meat sandwich (since sandwich bread alone is awful!), sugar-free low-fat foods if possible, grapes sometimes help regardless of their acidity in my opinion. your eyes and stomach will more than likely locate the best food depending on how you feel at that time. just avoid fats, chocolate, sugars, alcohol, coffee/caffeine, or anything else generally considered not good for us except in moderation, at least until the reflux episode passes.
7 - Again, could be all in my head, but taking a daily multi-vitamin can sometimes feel like its helping, or when taken on a regular basis, stave off an attack all together.
I have taken aspirin (2 pills, normal dose), acetaminophen (up to 500mg during episode), ibuprophen (2 pills, normal dose, 400mg), hydrocodone (10-20 mg), and oxycodone (10-20 mg) while on adderall without any adverse side effects. i use to have a fairly bad addition to opiates, swallowing a little over 200-300 mg of oxy a day, and i can still tell i have a tolerance to it even though I do not abuse them anymore, but taking 10-20 mg of hydro/oxy in special scenarios has yet to cause me to overt back to addiction, so i don't consider it all that bad to indulge in special scenarios. like i said, it could be all in my head, but it seems to be effective at limiting burning, pain, overall uneasiness, etc.
The most important thing I can say to avoid, or limit is smoking. I am a smoker, and when the reflux is rolling and adderall is involved, you can rest assured every cig is going to lengthen your reflux episode by 15-20 mins, and make it all the worse.
I'm no professional, but I hope there's some answers in there for someone!

To all the people who are suffering from burning lips I think i may have your solution. I have a bad habit of biting my fingers, and sometimes the inside of my mouth, usually right below my lower lip. Now if i am not on adderall i can control my biting with no problems. But, when I'm on adderall Its not that i can't control it, but its almost as if it just happens without me realizing. Which is what a lot of people seem to be saying. The thing is just about everyone who uses the drug will bite the inside of their mouth. Whether you're abusing the drug, prescribed, have ADD/ADHD, dont have ADD/ADHD, taking xr's, or taking ir's. Now as i've slowly began to get used to the drug i realize when i'm bighting the inside of my mouth. And when i'm on adderall and i do bite the inside of my mouth it really doesn't hurt at all. Which makes it even easier to ignore. I think the reason that a lot of you may not be noticing that you're bighting the inside of you mouth so much to the point where its going to hurt when the adderall wares off is because, you're on adderall. Think about it, adderall is prescribe to us because we can't focus without it. When we're on the drug, it makes us focus on what's important: schoolwork, homework, jobs, etc; So you may not even notice that you're bighting the inside of your mouth because you're so focused and the drug is working so well. Another thing i've noticed is, i tend to bite the most when im doing my work, on the computer, or sitting down. When I'm doing my work i seem to bite the most. Now, a lot of you may think this is completely wrong because you'd think you would notice. But i have a lot of friends who've experienced the same thing, and the next day they're always complaining about how bad there mouth hurts because they basically chewed it up. Biting the inside of your mouth is also why eating your food can be so painful sometimes, ecspecially if you eat foods that tend to be more acidic. I mean you have multiple exposed openings, all over, to an extremely sensitive and frecuently used area of your body. This could also be the reason a lot of people are getting the irritation sores on there tongue. Back like 5 years ago when i was 10 I used to get them like crazy. This was before i even knew what adderall was. But i had one habit that i just couldn't brake, biting the skin off the tips of my finger(I know that sounds really gross...it is kind of gross too isn't it?) What happens is, the germs from your fingers pollute you mouth. This is the most commmon way irritation/canker sores are formed. Now you guys may be wondering how your fingers get in you mouth too. Well another thing i realized is i dont just perc my lips and bite the inside of my mouth. Im usually using my index finger on my free hand to push the brim of my mouth closer to my teeth. The germs from your fingers then rest on your lips and the brim of your mouth. Now, anyone who takes adderall knows how common cotton/dry mouth is, and how often we lick our lips. And i think thats how the germs from our hands are transferred inside your mouth. And if we think about it, the germs have two extremely simple routes into our bodies. 1. Down our throughts, which could be the cause of sore throughts, mouthes, or tonsils. 2. The openings in our mouthes that we've created from biting the inside of our mouth. As well, smoking menthol ciggerettes could also be the the cause of sore throughts or mouthes. The crushed up fiberglass in the menthal ciggerettes rip open tiny holes in your throught, lungs, and mouth. Also creating routes for germs and bacteria to get into our bodies. Also in regards to anyone with a sore throught, mouth, or tonsils the solution to this may be simple as well. We all know how hard it is to get certain foods down, without water, while on adderall. What you may be doing is just swalloing to much, too hard, or both. Maybe try foods that are easier to get down, or always have a beverage handy, or a drinking fountain close by.
P.S. For all of you who don't beleive me because I may not have been prescribed to adderal long enough seeing as its my first year, look at your hands now, where are they? I can honestly say I've pushed my lips into my mouth with my finger at least 15 times while i was typing this. Re-read this whole thing and pay attention to what your doing though. But don't make it your job to keep your hands to your side. For the rest of the day try to remember and observe what you're doing while you're focused on your work.

LIKE BURNING PAIN. IF I EAT FIRST THE MOUTH SORENESS AND DRYNESS IS NOT AS
BAD. SO TRY EATING FIRST BEFORE TAKING THE MED. MAYBE THE EFFECT OF THE
HYDROCHLORIC ACID IN THE STOMACH ON THE MED IS THE PROBLEM.

Hi All,
Thanks for your posts that have helped me. In reply to this issue of sores in the mouth- Adderall really has harsh symptoms and is often over looked by the Doc. I suffered from everything in these posts all I can say for advice is this:
If you are taking the soilds ( not XR) and your tounge is like these posts back off the amount given too you on the days you dont need it but do keep taking it daily (not good to go off and on) if you can ask your doctor to give you both forms soilds and xrs ( for example if you normally take 20 mg you would then take 10mg XR and fallow it around lunch time with 5mg soild and again at 2pm with 5 mg soild- this is just an example) I say this bc this helped my sores and gums. If you take XR and get this you are depleting your system of vitamins bc your body is running on hard. DRINK A LOT OF WATER!!! Anyone know anyone who has ever had a canker sore or cold sore like symptoms yet were not taking Adderall? Yah- thats becasue these mouths sores ARE CAUSED BY LACK OF ENOUGH LIQUIDS MEANING WATER NOT SUGARY OR CITRUS- they are the bodies natural reaction to dehydration- gum helps a ton if for some reason you cant narrow it down or need a high dose for tests etc.
TAKE FISH OIL-MAGNESIUM (LOOK UP THE DIFFERNT TYPES PLEASE PEOPLE, AS ALL ARE NOT ABSORBANT IN THE BODY) AND POTASIUM HAS HELPED ENERGY LEVELS AND MENTAL CLARITY*** FEMALES ASK YOUR DOC ABOUT IRON ESSPECIALLY IF YOU SEE YOUR "CYCLE" HAS CHANGED WITH TAKING ADDY***
Good Luck all I hate this c**p too
Remember: potassium and magnesium are all things that get depleted with taking adderall (zinc too but most people have a hard time stomaching zinc) and fish oil just helps your whole system run. BRUSH YOUR TEETH when you find your tounge flicking in your mouth.
Thats all folks hope I helped

Just like when you bite the inside of your cheek, once its swollen, you cant help but doing it again.. I try to chew gum or brush my teeth a few extra times a day, just to keep the oral bacteria from growing and keeping my mouth and tongue swollen. I have to keep my mouth busy. ohh and long phone calls help too. lol
