I experienced exactly the same symptoms this past Friday. This was just three days after starting the XR. I called my Doctor who told me to go to urgent care immediately. I was told it was an allergic reaction and continued use would be life threatening. I have yet to start a new medication.

I have the same problem!! I thought i was solo on th is. Yay? It's odd though, swelling occurs only when i attempt to chow down. I can't make any sense of it. Allergy that selectively manifests, specifically when exposed to food and, perhaps, the friction from chewing an irritant ? Im stumped and would really like to make sense of this manifestation. It doesnt happe all the time either. Anyone with same experience and/or some ideas as to why?

There is no one in the world that can handle that much or should take that much Adderall. Take your exaggerated drug brags somewhere else, this page is for people who are responsibly taking the medication and have side effects.

Meth and amphetamines dry out your mouth causing no salvia to coat the tissue. When the gums dry out it tends to cause inflammation. It stops the distribution of nutrients within the veins. Your gum tissues are slowly dying from dehydration. As we all know when tissues die they lose all cell production which causes the gums to stop providing nutrients to the teeth. It slowly causes tooth decay and many other dental problems as we all seem to know as "meth mouth". I'm am not a doctor or have any means of a Ph.D but I do know from personal experience. It's not the chemicals in the drug it's simply the intake of liquids. Most meth heads sweat out all the extra water they have stored within an hour leaving them with complications of dehydration.

When I take Adderall the roof of my mouth gets really sore. I only realize it when I finally eat something. I assumed it was because I would go all day and not eat, but then when I was able to take it and eat something shortly afterwards, the same pain/rawness happened. I eventually realized that when I clench my jaw, I will hold my tongue on the roof of my mouth for long periods of time. That, mixed with the constant dry mouth makes the whole top of my mouth hurt like hell when I try to eat, especially bread or pizza makes it really bad. Forcing down the food through the pain seems to help about halfway through the meal. You just need to chew your food all the way to one side of your mouth, as far as you can get it... small bites, lots of liquid to get it down, and try really really hard to keep your tongue off the roof of your mouth. If your jaw or face is tense try keeping your tongue touching the back of your bottom teeth. Eat before you take it and stay away from the Captain Crunch! Taking a lower dose is probably the easiest solution.

Thank you. My symptom history is similar. The numbing and soreness comes on in the evening. Ritilin, Adderall, and Vivanse all cause it, but it also lasts for a week or more after I've only taken the Rx for a day. It has worsened with time over the 4 years I've taken Adderall off and on (more off than on). It's very helpful for my focus so I keep trying every once in a while. Looking for reassurance that I'm not causing some neurological damage.

I switched over to Adderall IR 60 mg. A day and I get extremely bad dry mouth syndrome. Once that happens , I breakout with very painful cankersores on both sides of my tongue Mix that with regular commercial toothpaste and you have a recipe for disaster. Commercial toothpaste like Crest, Colgate etc. Contain Sodium Laurel Sulfate which is the culprit. The natural toothpastes do not have that added ingredient. I have had good luck avoiding canker sores since I switched to Biogen Dry mouth oral care products. Made all the difference in the world. Good luck

Adderall and other such stimulant ADHD meds cause dry mouth. This, in turn, messes up the natural ph balance, as well as the balance of good bacteria in your mouth. I have been suffering from the same thing. No solid food in two weeks because my mouth is filled with sores. I tried Biotine, which is meant to rebalance the flora in your mouth. I drank Kefir (a cultured milk derivative with lots of probiotics ) like crazy, and it's still not getting better. My advice is to do what I am doing today. Switching to another med. Vivance only causes dry mouth in about 4% of patients, whereas the occurrence of dry mouth and sores with adderall users is almost three times that. Vivance and Concerta cause the least amount of severe dry mouth cases. Hope that helps!! I feel your pain...quite literally.

If u are taking IR tablets try switching to XR. I've been on it for 10 years and this didn't start until Teva and Barr started making the IR tablets. Only the XR is still made by Shire! Your welcome!

Adderall causes dry mouth in 35% of patients. Dry mouth leads to a ph imbalance as well as an imbalance of good and bad bacteria, which leads to these sores. I take Adderall and get them too. I'm a singer, so this can be extremely frustrating and impeding.
My dad is a doctor and has recommended Biotene, an oral rinse that help rebalance the ph and bacteria. We've also found two home remedies: kefir is a cultured, yogurt like drink that has amazing probiotic properties. Swishing with that and drinking one to three glasses a day can really help. Also, honey. It has such a high sugar content that it will help numb the sores (it stings at first). Also, honey has antibiotic properties, which is why it literally never spoils. Take a tablespoon of honey and hold it in your mouth for about 30 seconds, gently swishing and making sure it contacts the sores.
I've been using those three remedies for a few weeks and have noticed a remarkable change. I still get the occasional sore, but usually only one or two small ones that last no more than 48 hours, especially if I use the honey method.
If you still have issues, talk to your doctor about switching to Vyvance, which typically causes only 5% of patients to experience dry mouth and doesn't seem to lead to mouth sores.
Hope this helps. Please share this info as much as possible. You're not alone.

Hello Grouchy:
I am a dental hygienist, take Adderall, and experience the same oral manifestations while on Adderall. My symptoms included the following:
DRY MOUTH: stimulants reduce saliva production because of the effects onot the autonomic nervous system.
Remedies: Lots of water, sugar free hard candy or gum, the best product I found is called Xylomelts. You may have to HUNT them down, but most pharmacies will carry a limited amount. This product adheres to your gums and inspires salary flow.
Note: DRY mouth allow the oral bacteria to flourish in your mouth because you saliva is not available to rinse the bacteria into your stomach where enzymes kill it. It is important to stay away from fermentable carbs/sugar. Sugar feed the bacteria in your mouth and poops out acid onto your teeth potentially causing increased decay. Fluoride the heck out of your teeth with a fluoride rinse like ACT. I highly recommend getting a script from your dentist or PCP for PreVident Booster Plus toothepaste; request spearmint flavor.
SORE RAW / BURNING TONGUE WITH an AREA of WHITE TASTE BUDS: I believe this to be two fold; dry tongue from lack of saliva lubricating it and constant tongue movement against my teeth. The white taste buds were in the exact area of where my tongue was hitting the sharp cusp of my premolar. I believe this is either dying tongue tissue that as lost pigment or the tongue tissue turning into a callous.
REMEDIES: the same methods of preventing dry mouth and using Biotene lubricant. Again I cant recomment Xylomelts enough. I preferred it over hard candies and gum. Hard candy and gum require your tongue to constantly be moving. This i felt exacerbated the problem. making a conscious effort to not do it. If you find the movement is involuntary and you have no control over it, it is considered an oral tic. This can be lead to a serious non reversible nerveb damage caused by psychotropic medications.
Note: Xylomelts contain Xyloral which is a natural sweetener that reduces cavity causing bacteria. Not to forget that Xylomelts adhere to the gum tissue so you can place them anywhere on your jaw bone. I prefer to place them on the upper back part of my mouth, above my first molar. It is discrete and it is located adjacent to a salary duct. Also another bonus is that you can wear them while you sleep. It is always best to try and breathe through your nose as breathing through your mouth will make dry mouth worse.
SUCKING IN CHEEKS AND INNER LIP TISSUE: I don't know why this happens but I do know the sucking causes the tissue to become inflamed. The inflamed tissue coupled with sucking caused the tissue to continually rub against the teeth. This causes very painful irritation and it is the soft tissue forming against the hard tissue of teeth.
Remedies: Be aware of when you are doing it and stop, also taking an over the counter anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen. This will reduce the inflammation and reduce the pain.
PAIN, BURNING, SORENESS: this is caused by all of the above-mentioned.
REMEDIES: all of the above-mentioned remedies. I also found that Sucrets lozenges contain a oral anesthetic. This provides relief by numbing the mouth and increases saliva production. The only downfall is that I have not seen them made sugar free
MOST IMPORTANT TO KNOW: keeping your mouth clean and doing at least the minimum ADA recommend home care is crucial. Brushing at least 2× daily for 2 minutes (recommend a plug in power toothbrush to remove the most amount of plaque possible), with a dry mouth toothpaste or the prescription toothpaste mentioned earlier. After you are done brushing your teeth, rinse your brush off thoroughly and gently brush your tongue. Most oral bacteria is found between the grass-projections that are the taste buds. Brush the tongue forward, side to side, getting in between the taste buds and any tonguse fissures. This will also help the process of removing the white tissue cells. You will need to continually brush spit and rinse the tooth brush until all the the white are colored stained plaque is removed from the tongue. Lastly, you absolutely need to be flossing a minimum of 1x per day. Bacteria thrive when left undisturbed. Under the gum line and teeth contact areas is where the bacteria hide that cause gingivitis and periodontal disease. Ridding your mouth of an abundance of bacteria is going to be key in the healing and prevention of the oral discomfort that comes from medicinal induced dry mouth.
Good Luck
