Hi. I have some questions about interstitial cystitis. What causes IC? What are treatments for IC? Does IC increase the risk of bladder cancer?
Hi. The cause of interstitial cystitis is not really known. There are no organisms revealed in the urine of people with IC. Experts have isolated some substance, called antiproliferative factor and they are learning more about it. No cause and no cure. There is no cure for IC. People with IC may notice improvement in symptoms after a bladder distention. Some other treatment options include bladder instillation, oral drugs (Elmiron, Aspirin and Ibuprofen), transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, diet, exercise, bladder training and surgery. The scientists have found no evidence IC increases the risk of bladder cancer.
Interstitial cystitis is a chronic condition which is also called painful bladder syndrome. Usually this condition is combination of combination of uncomfortable bladder pressure, bladder pain and sometimes pain in your pelvis. This pain can be very mild but sometimes it can be very severe.
This condition usually affects woman but men and children are not exception as well.
Unfortunately interstitial cystitis can have some severe consequences on your life and it can really reduce the quality of your life.
Unfortunately, there is no cure for interstitial cystitis but there are all kinds of medications which are helping in reliving the symptoms of IC.
Oral medications such as Ibuprofen (mostly Advil) which is no steroidal anti-inflammatory drug will help to relieve pain.
