Hello,
After it turned out that what I thought were just age spots on my face in fact were pre-cancerous cells, my dermatologist prescribed me Efudex to use for 4 weeks. Of course, I’m not going to risk anything and go with the treatment, but I’ve been reading a bit of information about Efudex and Carac online, and it seems that Carac has much lower concentration of fluorouracil compared to Efudex.
Would this mean that Carac leads to less side effects such as pain, burning and skin peeling?

Hi,
even though it's true that Carac has 0.5% fluorouracil while Efudex has 5% (which would make Efudex 10 times stronger), I'm afraid there is no way around the side effects that both Efudex and Carac cause.
Even though Carac seems like it's 10 times weaker, it in fact just has the more efficient method of delivering fluorouracil to the skin, so you basically end up with the same concentration of fluorouracil in your skin, which then, of course, causes almost identical side effects.
