I also take lactase enzymes. I personally like Walmart's Equate Lactase enzyme or Lactaid(costs more). The generic one is cheap and has the same ingredients as the big name brands. I checked with a pharmacist before purchasing.

Drinking milk isn't bad for you. Dairy is actually quite healthy for your diet and people have been doing it for thousands of years. My daughter is lactose intolerant as well, and I would never dream of eliminating dairy from her diet. She drinks lactose-free milk with enzymes with no problems, so I think that the lactase pills would act in the same manner.

I kinda want to point out that even woman, if they continued to me 'milked' would continue producing milk.. you hear of as few woman who choose to breastfeed for a rediculous amount of years because of this.. cows are they same, its not for us, if because they have continued to be milked and the body responds to that...
Thats just what ii have read though.. Maybe im worng but im more likely to beleieve that with some evidence before i just assume its because the universe loves humans more than anything else and everything is here to serve us...

Hello. I'm from Finland (where about 17 % of the population are lactose intolerants). We have a wide range of lactose enzyme tablets and today we also have a huge range of dairy products that are totally lactose free (and I'm not talking about the sugary tasting milk, the long lasting one, either.) They taste exactly the same as the regular products, just without the lactose :).
Sometimes those pills work for me, it depends the amount of lactose in the food. I couldn't drink a glass of milk even taking the pills, but e.g. I can eat a sauce made of cheese.
I strongly recommend the pills. Makes your life so much easier :-)

Cows produce milk to feed their calf's, just as a women produces milk to feed her baby. It would make more sense for humans to drink human milk. Our bodies need water more than they need milk, milk is not the only source for calcium! A balanced diet of fruit, vegetables and grains does a body good!

I have been lactose intolerant for over 40 years and have used lactase pills that entire time without any side effects. The cells in your small intestine are supposed to produce the lactase enzyme so you can break down the lactose in dairy to glucose and galatcose before it hits the large intestine. But in some people the cells in the small intestine that do that "wear out" and can no longer produce enough lactase enzyme or none at all anymore. When the lactose, undigested gets into the large intestine, the bacteria there break down the lactose in such a way that it produces the symptoms of diarrhea and gas. If the lactose sugar can get predigested before it hits the large intestine, you will have no problem. From my experience lactase enzyme is extremely safe to use.
