Hello, I am 27 years old and I just had my first baby. But, my asthma became worse during pregnancy because I did not use medications that often (because of the baby). I am breastfeeding now and I would like to know is Primatene mist inhaler safe to use in this period?

I think that it has to be used with a lot of caution. The consultation with a doctor is really necessary, perhaps you can start with some smaller does, but you should know that many medications can end up in your baby’s system because of the breastfeeding. So, there is a risk for your baby, but you must find some way to help yourself also.

Hello there marjie,

First of all congratulations. Second, you should have been consulting your doctor about this whole situation before. Since your asthma has gone worse it would be wisest thing to consult your doctor now, and see what he has to tell you. I believe that he will tell you to be careful, so little things are tested on pregnant woman, and because of this he will probably suggest you to try not to use it or he will recommend something less strong.

Also, if you feel that you can’t stand your asthma attack any more than go to the ER, they will probably give you oxygen to relieve your symptoms. I hope that you will resolve your problem.
