Definitely your tanning lotion. I kept mine in my car in the summer and it got really hot which I think might have messed with it (prior to it being in my car I didn't break out in the red, itchy bumps). Make sure you keep your tanning lotion inside your house or don't use it at all.

I actually google searched this topic because I'm having the same issue. I had never been in a tanning bed in my life until about a week ago. The "rash" started just 2 days ago and I've only been tanning every other day so I won't burn. I did burn once the 2nd time I tanned bcuz I'm genius and decided to tan 10 minutes instead of the initial 8 minutes I started with. Doh! I thought it might be an allergic reaction to the lotion too. I was hoping not because I paid a large amount for my lotion. I am NOT on birtb control and don't take any kind of medications. I put this lotion all over and have no problems anywhere else. I will also tell everyone I've lost over 100 pounds and have some excess skin in my mid-section which is the only place I really have the "rash." I'm gonna try the over the counter cortizone cream but if this doesn't subside I'm gonna discontinue using my lotion, try another lotion, and see my doctor.

I have been recently been getting these bumps while tanning. Last year when tanning this never happened.... The only difference is that this year I'm on birth control. I don't think your crazy at all.

I've gotten this a number of times. It's welts or hives from the "Tingle" in a lot of lotions. properly wiped down and cleaned, the lotions can linger. Take benedryl afterwards, a shower and drink a TON of water.

I am 51 and have been tanning all my life. I recently got a memebership to Sunday Blue Box. After my 4th session I came home and noticed itchy bumps on my hand and knees. I figured it was something I came in contact although it happened right after I had tanned. I put calamin lotion on it and it went away. I went in today and while I was tanning my neck started to itch so I went to scratch and there were all these itchy bumps! This time it happened while I was tanning. I do not use lotions and I take no meds so its not anything I am taking. In my opinion it is the level of heat coming from those tanning bulbs. I have used tanning booths since I was 22 but havent used them in the last 10 years until recently. I noticed that now you get your tan from a sunbed in 12 mins. Back in the day you had to go for 15 min and work your way up to 30. The bulbs are also very different. The new bronzing bulbs that leave no burn still put out a LOT OF HEAT, thats why these beds have such great cooling fans for us to use so we don't notice the heat so much. I have to say that now I am worried about what kind of damage I maybe doing to my skin. This is newer technology and I am sure that it has not been studied well so please be careful. As for me my tanning days in those bronzing booths are over....go to the level 1 and put in your 30 min. I have a feeling you won't reqret it later in life.. Good luc

I am 42 and decided I wanted some color it has been years since I have tanned first time in bed I was in it for 7 minutes didnt really notice any color, second time i stayed in for 13 minutes I didnt notice I was pretty burnt until a day later. The day after I started getting a a hive like rash on my knees and elbows it then went to my ankles and back of legs behind knees. It has been a week and I am still itching I am hoping it is from the tanning bed and not seliacs disease. Strange for the rash to start on knees and elbows..

I have been tanning for a few months now - off and on, about every 3 -4 days. No problems and I never have and any in past years in a tanning bed, but I will break out with welts the first day in the sun outdoors - every year.
Recently I didn't tan for about 10 days - 2 weeks and then went in a Matrix UV bed. Very hot bed! Three days later I started itching in one spot on my stomach. It too felt like poison ivy, and the more I itched, the worse it got. But it felt so good to itch! lol About 2-3 days later, my breasts got itchy too. I've noticed that the areas covered by my bra - and the parts of the breast that got the reddest/warmest in the UV bed were the areas that itch. I have also noticed that when sleeping at night, I will start to itch when I have laid in one position for a long time and that atrea gets warm. Ice packs will cool the area and stop any welts from forming and itching. I also put lotion and anti-itch creams on the areas that itch, during the day. It has been here for 2 weeks now and only itches now when it gets warm - and after I itch it.
I have not taken any antihistimines, but may try that if it doesn't go away soon. I am not on any birth control pills or any other meds.
I have noticed that my skin on my stomach, although tan, is dry looking. I have to wonder if I didn't suck a lot of the moisture out of the skin with that UV bed and the moisture isn't being replenished fast enough. Guessing what has happened is that the skin is overly-dry and is reacting to the heat.
Hope you feel better soon!
