I'm scheduled in late May 2007 for LSH and wondered if anyone that is been through LSH can tell me:
How long did it take you to feel 100% again? Is the primary issue fatigue (i.e. in the afternoon)?
I've heard from someone who didn't have LSH that her hysterectomy left her with a huge tummy for months afterwards. Has anyone had this happen? Mine is bigger than normal right now, but I can't stand the thought of looking pregnant when I'm not!
What about unwanted weight gain? Have you had more problems than normal maintaining your normal weight?
Would appreciate your hindsight thoughts.
Thanks!

Hi I stumbled upon this site while looking for information on LSH. I am a little scared as I will be having the surgery this July 2007. I still have a few more tests to undergo before I have the actual green light. Has anyone had the surgery over the last few months who could share their experience with me?? All of the information and stories I have read on this website have been wonderful!! Thanks to everyone for making me feel some what better about this surgery.

LSH w/ pubo-sling on Monday, July 9 and everything seemed to go very well. I had surgery around 8AM and was home a little after noon. I did take a vicodin in the afternoon and again before I went to bed. Today (Tuesday) I took a couple Ibuprofen. So far a little lower abdominal pressure, but nothing else. Thankfully (at least at this point) I had very minimal pain resulting from the CO2... we'll see if that changes? Glad it's over!!

I had an LSH on the 10th of July. Mine was done w/the DaVinchi Robotics machines. Anyway, I haven't heard anyone post about how their vagina actually feels after this or about a discharge. There isn't supposed to be anything done vaginally, but I do have a sore area and pain inside (probably cervical is my guess). At first I had a musty smelling discharge, that seems to be going away but today my vagina has felt hot and wierd. Also, I have 4 incisions, one of which is red and hard, but not hot. I am trying to decide if I have a problem with either of these areas! I hate this!!!!

I am going to have Laparoscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy in mid Sep.
I have read many info that all of you shared here finding them very helpful. But non of you mentioned about the pre surgery bowel preparationg, I worry about that too, I wonder if that will make me lose energy even before my sugery starts...48 hours clear fluids only, plus Phoshate Solution, sounds like it will make me really weak.
Can any one please share your experiences or tips with me?

I had an LSH last week at the Pearl Women's Center in Portland, OR. They also perform them in the hospitals, but this was great.
I checked in at 9:15 am and was finished and home by 4pm. My son made me a wonderful chicken and noodle dinner with a salad and dessert, and I ate it all.
The only pain I have experienced is the pain from the lap. openings, and at that, it is very slight. I was really dry and thirsty the first couple of days and I drank a lot of water. I'm taking this week easy, and have been told that I can expect to feel fatigue for a month or two.
Two days after having the LSH, my father-in-law in Denver passed away, and my doctor said I would be fine flying there for the funeral. He said to walk around a bit each hour on the plane, and to wear support hose, only because I'm a bit overweight.
Hope you find a doctor and clinic close to you. Good luck!

Hi Girls,
I had an LSH about 5 days ago. I was in the hospital for 2 days only because I had a tumor the size of a grapefruit and she really had to get in on my left side. I'm very bruised with stitches but I'm getting them out on Thursday ( 8 days after surgery )
Im just a bit tired but for the most part feel great!!! I think it's just the pain pills that are making me tired. I didn't take them today and I feel fine! It must be different for everyone because someone said you're really tired from it. I don't feel that. My doctor wants me off for 4 weeks but I think I can go back after a week or so. I feel great. I just wont lift too much. My abdomen only feels sore because it's bruised from her probing so much to cut the uterus out. I am only 42 and never wanted kids so I am very happy I had this done! No more pain! NO MORE PERIODS! YIPPPIE!!! My boyfriend is ecstatic that I won't be complaining anymore. If anyone needs anymore info, feel free to email me at _[removed]_
Good luck!

Hi, I am a 44 year old woman with many large fibroids and a uterus the size of a 14 week pregnancy. My doc has wanted to do a hysterectomy for some time now but I've been hesitant. I've explored all the options out there, and really the only permanent solution for my problem is hysterectomy. It's not even the bleeding and the cramps so much as it is the constantly going to the bathroom and the complications from the anemia (tired, pale, out of breath, rapid heart beat, etc.). I've resigned myself to the fact that I will never be pregnant. I've heard a lot of talk about hysterectomy pushing you into early menopause (even if you keep your ovaries). My doc says no, but he's pretty old school. He also tells me that it's dangerous to do laprascopic on a uterus my size because I'll be under anesthesia for so long. Has anyone out there had the procedure done on a giant unterus like mine :-) I really don't want to be out of commission for six weeks. I appreciate any thoughts and advice. thanks so much,
Holly

Hi, I'm interested in connecting with woman who have had a supracervical hysterectomy. I'm scheduled to have surgery 9/18/08. It seems the best way for me to go as I don't want total invasion of my body. Can someone reply and let me know how they felt emotionally as well as physically after this procedure and about how long it took before you were back to all your normal routines.

I had a supracervical hysterectomy about five years ago. I did not have the laproscopic kind, but had a full abdominal incision. For anaesthesia, I had a spinal block (like an epidural of sorts), so I was numb from the waist down rather than totally under during surgery. All my choices were based on what would be the least expensive methods to fix my problem of numerous, painful fibroids. This type of partial hysterectomy, combined with the type of anaesthesia, only required one night of hospital stay. The surgeon charged $2500, the anaesthesiologist charged $1700, and one night in the hospital was $800 (2003 prices for Las Vegas, NV at MountainView hospital).
The procedure was as close to pleasant as it could be... the only time I remember being at all uncomfortable was when I was in the recovery room and cold, and when the morphine drip made me itchy and nauseous. I was switched to Toradol and all was fine. I had to have a bladder catheter for 24 hours because the spinal block numbed me all the way down to my feet, and I couldn't walk to the bathroom! I was released to go home in 24 hours with Vicodin, but I stuck to 800 mg of ibuprofen and I felt amazing. I slept a lot, and was cautious, but I went out to lunch 72 hours after surgery (I sa with a pillow on my lap in the car).
To help my recovery, I went to a mostly liquid diet for 48 hours prior to surgery (to help avoid painful bowel movements/constipation/straining from opioid meds). I also started to take products like GasX post-surgery, to help clear painful gas bubbles which can develop in odd areas of the body after ýou've been opened up (I had some mild pain in one of my shoulders). I took my pain meds, placed a warm heating pad on my incision as per doctor's orders, slept as much as I needed to for the first few days and stuck to a light diet of stuff like rice pudding, smoothies, etc. I will swear up and down that I never had any pain I would call "awful", and I felt as good as new after three weeks. My age may have helped me to recover a bit more quickly, but I also went into the surgery with a very positive attitude. For a few months after surgery I felt like a new person.
One more suggestion -- have some Colace or Miralax other stool softener product at home to take if you end up taking any opioid pain meds. The meds cause constipation, and if you've got incisions, you don't want to be straining during bowel movements. Colace is your friend!
I'm on this board now because I'm still having some bleeding five years after this type of procedure. I think the bleeding is from my cervix, and it isn't painful, but this can be a potential side-effect of the Supracervical procedure. You may or may not end up with monthly spotting, but at least you won't be in pain, and you don't have to worry about floods!
Sorry for being so long winded! In short, I think this is a wonderful procedure for many women and I hope you'll find it a piece of cake. I'll keep you in my thoughts!

I had a laproscopic hysterectomy done robotically last summer (07). It took me about 3 weeks till I felt 'normal" but the recovery was easy compared to other things I had been thru. My ovaries were taken too (already menopausal at 41!). I have had no problems and feel great. Emotionally, it has been a total relief to not be in chronic pain. Because I was already in meno it hasn't been a big deal mood swing wise.
My surgeon had me do a colon cleanse like people do before a colonoscopy. He said he could see better in there (looking for endo - I had endo in my uterus - ouch!) that way and it may have helped w/constipation after. I did use a stool softener as well after to help.
Regarding the gas they use to inflate you so they can see better - depends on how much is left and how much it moves around. Like another post said, my shoulder was achey but again, not bad.
I hope that helps put you at ease and things go well for you!
