I had a supracervical laproscopic hysterectomy 9 days ago on 8/21/08
I had 5 fibroids and my uterus was the size of a 4 1/2 month pregancy
The first week was a little rough , just sore and groggy from pain meds
Getting better every day , I am scheduled to be out of work 3 weeks total
I only had my uterus removed , so no menopause . Emotionally I feel the same just can't wait to be back to "normal " and no heavy peroids!
My right side is all that is still sore right now but they said this is due to size and all the probing to remove something so big .
From reading here I think the bigger the uterus maybe the sorer you feel
but really not too bad . My advice , relax after, take the pain meds and when you start feeling a little better ( for me this was 5 days later ) take a painkiller then 4 hrs later take the motrin they will prescribe this has helped wean me off that " drug haze" from the pain killers.
I was in the hospital one night . I will answer any questions as I ws really nervous about doing this too, but so glad I finally did it !

I had my surgery on 8/20/05 and I was back at work on 8/25/05 feeling great and just a tiny bit sore!!!!! XD I was sitting straight up in the bed 2 hours after the procedure and went home that evening. That first time I moved was the roughiest part. And going to the bathroom makes it uncomfortable at first. I only used over the counter pain medication for the pain that was only in my left side. The other incisions I never felt. The only problem i am having now is CONSTIPATION. OMG--I am going to blow up!!!!! I have been drinking lots of water and doing the daily gas/laxative thing just to breath. Otherwise, I wish I had done this years ago. I did not have the problems with fibroids or tumors. I was a very bad bleeder and my iron levels and blood counts were affected severely because of it. So depending on what your situation is will depend on your recovery time. Good luck. You will not regret it. ;-)

I'm actually laughing as I read the post about the brain fog and fatigue after a laproscopic hysterectomy. I felt sooo good after mine I think I thought I could climb everest. But I couldn't read a magazine and I couldn't watch tv -- just couldn't focus! So I walked and walked and then just collapsed, exhausted. Told people it was like being 8 months old again -- not like I think I'll tak a nap -- just asleep now. Really don't remember most of the first 2 weeks. Almost 6 weeks post surgery now -- going back to work only now. glad my doc insisted on my taking all 6 wks. I don't think you realize that it's still a pretty major surgery because you feel so ok. Maybe there's a bit of denial there too - who knows. All I know is that, aside from some pelvic discomfort and a vaginal infection that was FAR worse than the surgery, the surgery was pretty much a non-event. Far worse was the anxiety leading up to it!

Hi I had this surgery on the 16th of September and it's the 22nd. I just wanted to tell everyone how good I feel, it doesn't even feel like I had surgery. Dr. Morgan out of Savannah, Ga did an excellent job, from the beginning she made me feel at ease as women do not have to suffer. I am able to do everything but due to the restrictions of lifting I won't try that. Please if anyone is out there suffering from heavy mentruals, large fibroids, etc. know that there is a great cure. Good luck to all of you, and stay strong!!!

I am so glad that i found this site. I am 43 years old, I have multiple fibroids and the largest is 7cm, compared to five month pregnancy. I am scheduled to have a lsh consultation in November. There are no concerns with my ovaries, so I will be keeping them. I have never had any surgerys and the thought of being put to sleep is scary. My other concern is sex after the surgery. I love sex, and I am looking forward to lots more, without any worries. Any helpful feedback is appreciated. Thanks. Nef

I am scheduled to have LSH next week and I am suffering major anxiety. I am 42, have a large 8cm fibroid and suspected adenomyosis. I am in good health otherwise, have a great surgeon and so shouldn't be worried. Any advice? Did any of you go through this type of panic? I am really second guessing my decision, but when I think of not doing it and the pain, bleeding that would continue, it makes me sad.

Hello,
I had a LSH on 7/15/2010. I went home the next day. There are 2, 5cm incisions and 1, 12cm incision on my abdomen. I also have a tiny incision under my navel. My pain for the first two days post-op was mild; not bad as expected. More soreness and cramping as opposed to pain. I took Motrin 600mg & Codeine every six hours. The third day, I only needed the Motrin. I did not have a bowel movement for 5 days, which was very painful. I suggest stool softeners and plenty of water. I did have an episode of clotting two weeks post op. I was passing lots of large clots every 30 minutes or so. I had begun to worry when the clotting continued and I begin to feel dizzy. (I thought it was a "mini period" that I had read about). I went to the ER and found out that it was a blood clot. Hematomas are caused by blood which pools while lying for extended periods. Fortunately, I pass the clot without difficulties or infection. As of today, I am feeling fine. Your body will let you know when it's time to rest. Deciding to have the LSH was a great decision that I don't regret despite the hematoma.

Hi Kelly, I am just seeing your post. I have an 8cm fibroid also sitting right on my bladder and having periods every 2 weeks as well. I am scheduled for a laparo supracervical hysterctomy as you did. It is now 7 years for you, how did it all turn out and how are you feeling. I am 46 and was wondering if you had much hormonal changes or went into early menopause as I read even with the ovaries in this may happen. I was considering a myomectomy and keeping my uterus but was afraid the fibroid will grow back. So, if you don't mind, is there life after hysterectomy? Lisa

I had a laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy a year ago. Yesterday I noticed that I am having brownish discharge. It is not much, but I am concerned. Is it normal?
