I have had this two times now. It IS painful and I don't want it to come back!! My doctor lanced it this time. It hurts like the dickens when they put shots into it to lance it. I've been using Epsom salts and it still hasn't gone down. She thought she got it all out. And the culture said it is not an infection and she told me to stop taking the amoxicillin! HOW do I prevent this from happening again? THe entire left side is red and big. But the abscess is nearer the back this time. UGH.

Hi, got the same thing, on right labia majora. Few weeks ago that happened and worst thing was....I'm pregnant! Was 37 weeks that time, couldnt walk, do they have drained it. It turned out it was staphylococcus aureus. Few days ago I discovered I got it again...... went to see doctor, and they have checked, and said it will heal itself, not even an antibiotic! .....I'm 3 days overdue and I don't know how I'll deliver in this pain..... :(

Sorry Jamaica girl. They CAN lance it with a needle at the doctor. You just needed to find another dr. Hope your delivery went ok!

My doctor told me that it is not an infection either. I got some relief stuff from WalMart in a small round tin. It wasn't great - jsut helped a little. But ask someone for it. I've heard that Castor Oil works when you put it on with a bandage and HOT compresses. The Compresses worked for me but you have to do them like three times a day until it's gone. I'm going on a trip to the Dominican republic soon and I PRAY i don't get another one. I've had four.

I just had a procedure done involving the sane thing. Doctors do not know what exactly causes it as for every woman that has it, it could be a different cause. Mine was sliced (with the help of freezing) and nurses squeezed or applied pressure to drain the majority of the pus and infected liquid. A catheter was installed that I have to keep in for a couple of weeks. Its an uncomfortable irritation but I've gotten used to it.

this was my story exactly. I went to my GYNO today and she confirmed it was an abscess and lanced it. First she injected a numbing agent which hurt like hell- and the she kinds cut an x into the middle and drained it as much as she could. The pressure/pain was immediately gone. I wasn't able to walk or sit on my chair at work!  I was prescribed an antibiotic and told to sit in a bath with Epsom salts for 15 minutes a day, twice a day. Hope that helps.

hi. I had a abses on the right hand of my virgina lip. It's now exactly 4 years, and still struggling with it. I had it cut 4 times and had stitches. ......I clean it everyday with peroxide and got a virgina wash that I use. But still I got it. It goes away after 3 days, it appears again? I had a massive Ingrow hair there, and since the Ingrow hair was removed, I struggle with this absess. Please help, I tried hot water, Epson salts....doctors, and antibiotics. I'm really tired of this.

I felt a lump the size of a skittle about 3 months ago on my vagina. Didn't hurt at all.  Its the labia major area. I started soaking it and it got smaller after a month. But then it got larger on the 3rd month and it accessed with puss/blood coming out of it. Went to the gyno and she gave me amox for a week. Got smaller but then noticed a tunnel like lump going down from the actual lump itself. My gyno said its pretty deep. Anyway she said to keep soaking it since it seemed smaller and to go back in a month. But then a week later it accessed again and more puss was coming out. She told me to come back in the office but i can't get an appt for another 5 days. Should i be worried?

Hi! I've been dealing with this same issue for the last 7 years, but only within the last year have I started going to the OR to get it surgically worked on. The one that used to appear on my left labia has been completely resolved; however, I went in a couple months ago when the abscess appeared on my right and the doc wasn't able to drain it completely. Not sure if the incision wasn't made in the right place but my abscess is back again. I've been told that if it's an abscess and properly drained/treated, chances of it returning are much lower that if it is a cyst. Just check with your gyno...they'll numb it and make a tiny cut..if puss is present then it's an abscess and will drain. If no fluid...then chances are it's a cyst that may recur. Either way...take your antibiotics if prescribed and Epsom salt baths to alleviate swelling. Back to urgent care for me! Good luck everyone...at least we're not alone!

Ladies, I just experienced one of these abscesses and yes they are very painful. This is my first abscess in about one and a half years because I had to go to an infectious disease doctor because I kept getting abscesses every two months. Something that helps draw out the pus is witch hazel, Neosporin and heat. I hope this helps. It helped me. The pain went away and all of the pus is gone. It's just dark blood and a little swelling that I'm waiting to go away. FYI.. Herpes looks like a cold sore, abscesses start out as tiny bumps and get bigger
