I had a parakeet when I was a young girl, and it was wonderful and really tame. It would sit on your shoulder and read books with you, and it always wanted to look into your mouth. I loved it. It used to roam free in the house and one day my big brother left the window open and it disappeared forever. Now I have children of my own who would love to have a pet. I am thinking about getting a young parakeet or two. Can you tell me what the life expectancy is for parakeets?
