Try lemon water. Been drinking it for a few weeks now and have noticed a huge difference. I learned that lemons are used in the case of bleeding gums so i tried it. At the same time the peeling has almost stopped.

It's definitely not listerine, because I am experiencing the same problem and I do not use listerine mouth wash or any other mouthwash with alcohol. In fact, my issue started shortly after getting pregnant. I suspect it has something to do with hormonal changes but I was starting to wonder if anyone else had the same problem.

I too only get the skin peeling in the morning and the only change I've had, other than pregnancy is a change in toothpaste. I am currently using Pro Health and it appears to have gotten worse.

Hi, i'm so glad to know that i'm not the only one. This peeling inside my cheek was starting to worry me. I was about to freak out thinking i've got mouth cancer or something. It peels in a straight line like in between where my teeth come down together and a little on the inside of my bottom lip on the same side. Some days it's better and then it's like i can feel skin just hanging there ready to fall off. All i have to do is barely grab the skin between my teeth and it comes off. I don't no what it could be. Any ideas?

I am pretty sure it is the Listerine. I've never been pregnant either but I'm not going to rule out the possibility the hormonal changes have something to do with it by saying that it 'definitely has nothing to do with hormones.'

Anyway, This started for me after using Listerine for an extended period of time but I didn't make the connection to the peeling because it started out occurring only on occasion or wouldn't show signs of peeling until hours afterward. Then I switched to the Listerine Whitening Pre-Brush Mouthwash. I am using the same toothpaste but now my skin peels within minutes.

I just discovered the same problem.
Scary.
I think Sensodyne Tartar Control Plus Whitening is to blame.

YES
This just happened to me!!
If it is not common to you (like me) it might be:

1-Over-usage of lozenges........I thought it might have had something to do with the cold i have at the moment but i researched and discovered it happens with the over-usage of lozenges.

2- Or perhaps you may have just changed toothpaste??

Hope this is helpful :D

I read somewhere that it's some kind of chemical irritation. It would make sense, because the other day i ate an entire bag of ketchup chips and my mouth felt almost like i had scraped sand paper all over it (yes, it was that good, i didn't care how it felt at the time). The next morning i woke up with my entire mouth (apart from my tongue) covered with this filmy dead skin that i could pull off with my fingers or my teeth. weird stuff. it's only been a day and it's already 3/4 gone. the toothpaste stories that everyone talks about is also a logical possibility since some people probably react more to certain chemicals in certain toothpastes. hope this helps!

I am a dental hygienist. This is most likely because of the toothpaste or mouth rinse you are using. Try using a different brand or at least without whitening. It is just a reaction to the oils in that toothpaste or mouth rinse. For some its the whitening and others it is flavoring oils that particular bland has in it. Hope this helps y'all all!!

I have suffered from this problem for about 20 years off and on! I initially asked my doctor's opinion and he said it was Lichen Planus, which is an auto-immune condition, and can't actually be cured. It can be aggravated by stress and oral health products (mouthwash, strong toothpaste etc). However, I visited the dentist recently, who is new to our practice. and he referred me to a specialist for a biopsy. He says it may well be just Lichen Planus, which I am positive it is, but he wants to be absolutely sure. I am waiting for an appointment at the moment.

I will try the lemon water. Thank you for that info. I read many posts on several sites, even one from a dentist, about Crest toothpaste. Another site suggested a candida infection. If the lemon water doesn't help me, I'll contact my doctor.

I do know that a lot of old people have this condition. I thought that maybe I'm just getting old (I'm 53--not that old), but it came on suddenly, and actually, right around the time I switched toothpaste. I went from (I can't remember) either Crest, Colgate or Sensodyne to Arm & Hammer for sensitive teeth with whitening.

I was never been a user of mouthwash or similar until around a month ago. But I have been experiencing this mouth peeling on and off for months now. I brush my teeth every day for minimum of 2 minutes, floss, use a tongue scraper and have healthy teeth with regular 6-12 month dental visits as well as have healthy gums etc. I have not noticed any difference between tooth pastes and my recent use of mouth wash hasn't changed the frequency or quantity of the peeling. So still no idea what causes it! I'm not overly stressed about it as there is no pain or blood of after affects. No bad tastes. I guess it's just shedding like our normal skin does, just feels a little strange! And mine only happens in the mornings too. The only vitamin/mineral that I have issues with is iron, but I take a supplement to level that out.

This has been happening for about 2 days and it freaked me out. My anxiety made the situation ten times worse but I'm almost positive it was due to the whitening toothpaste I had used! I was so freaking scared ugh...!
