I have beend reading this site for the last year, but have never posted. i thought I would take a minute and tell you all my story.

October 5, 2006 I suffered a lis franc injury playing basketball. I broke the 2nd metatarsil and tore the ligaments in the lis franc joint. I went in to see an orthopaedic dr. on October 9, and had surgery October 13. They performed he open reduction internal fixation with three screws.

I was put in a cast and ordered non weight bearing for 8 weeks. Following that I was put in one of those CAM boots for the next 4 weeks. I started wearing tennis shoes the week in between Christmas and New Years.

The whole process seemed to take very long, and it was certainly not fun. My Dr. here in Omaha said that he has had very good results, but warned me that he takes a very conservative approach. Thus, the 8 weeks non weight bearing and the 4 weeks in the CAM boot.

I got along real well all summer, mowing my yard, returning the gym to run and do cardio. However, i have not been able to play basketball or any sports where you stop and start, because the Dr. wanted to leave the screws in for a year and there was a chance that they could break.

Well, I can happily say that I had the screws removed yesterday, November 2, 2007 and it feels great. My foot seems to be as strong as it was prior to the injury. Again, my Dr. made me take a conservative approach and in hindsight I am glad I did, I think that I am 100% back to normal.

Hi,

It was really nice to know you are feeling good. This gives me confidence. I will have my surgery tomorrow.

I fell on my right foot while walking down the stairs. Doctor said I need to have lisfranc surgery and told me that the first metatarsal has moved left slightly. I feel pain at the bottum (foot surface not the top) left of midfoot, only when I walk.

There is slight swelling at the left of the midfoot.

I read many of the threads. I'am able to stand but cannot walk long distances. I had been on crutches for 3 weeks and I hope my case is not very severe.

Need some help. Will be having surgery tomorrow.

Bye

Thanks for your story!

I was injured July 28, had surgery the same day as I dislocated all five joints by one inch and my foot was severly disfigured. I had give pins put it, got them out about two months ago. I have been hobbling around for the last three weeks. I wish my progress was like yours...I am really down in the dumps. I am not improving as I think I should. This is a long and painful process.

The best advice that I can give is "Hang in There!"

You only had the surgery 3 months ago. It did take me 4-5 months before I started to feel like I was making progress. And believe me, at one point I was feeling like I would simply be lucky to walk again normal, let alone play outside with my kids or resume physical activities.

I would be willing to bet that if you don't rush things, listen to your Dr., go to a physical therapist, and put in the time at home on your own to do the exercises your therapist recommends, you will be back to or close to 100% 9 months from now.

Keep your head up!! It will get better, although it probably doesn't feel like it now.

I was diagnosed almost 7 weeks ago with a lis franc injury. The doctor on-call told me to see an orthopedic doctor so I went. He at first told me I only had a slight sprain at the top of my foot and but me in a CAM boot for 3 weeks. I went back to see him and he told me it was a little worse than he first suspected and put me back in the boot for 3 more weeks. I went back last week and he told me it is getting A LOT worse and now I have to be in the boot for another 4-5 weeks. He has never told me to be non-weigh bearing or anything. So I'm wondering if I should go and get a second opinion or what. Any advice?
