I jumped off a second story roof when I was 15 and shattered my right foot. Every bone was broken at least once. The most serious was the multiple Lisfranc fractures. I had surgery one week after the injury (compartment syndrome prevented immediate surgery). At that time I had 4 surgical screws and 6 pins placed in my foot to hold the bones together. No one told my mother that they would need to be removed. The hardware wasn't removed until shortly before my 21 birthday! Nothing was done to stabilize my foot after the screws and pins were removed. Now, 17 years later, I can barely walk. Standing is not an option after 20 or so minutes. It makes my life rough. I am about to go see an orthopedic surgeon to see if something can be done, as I have to go back to work soon...been a stay at home mother and well, the economy is forcing me to return to work. I loathe the idea of another surgery, but something has to be done to try and restore some form of normalcy to my life! 8-| I'm hoping to be able to stand for more than a half hour!
