Hi. I was using a Chinese herbal drug called Tsai Tsao Wan. I heard this drug contain mercury. I would like to hear what are symptoms of mercury poisoning?

Hi. Some folk meds contain mercury in high amounts and can cause mercury poisoning. Tsai Tsao Wan not only contains mercury, but arsenic as well. Other Chinese herbal drugs that contain mercury and arsenic are An Gong Niu Huang Wan, Da Huo Luo Wan, Niu Huang Chiang Ya Wan, Niu Huang Chiang Hsin Wan and Ta Huo Lo Tan. There are also some Indian and Mexican meds containing mercury, such as Tainan, Ping-tong, Sin-chu and crème de Belleza-Manning. The symptoms of mercury poisoning include nausea, vomiting blood, burns, tissue death in your throat or stomach, stomach pain, bloody diarrhea, kidney failure and decreased urination. With long term usage of such products skin redness ant staining of the skin may occur. More serious symptoms include weakness, numbness and tingling. It means your nerves are damaged.
