Hey Kimber, I had the same thing happen to me last month. I was originally put on 20mg of prozac to treat PMDD but I noticed I wasn't myself. I was zoning out and feeling somewhat upset. I called and my gyno reduced the dosage down to 10 mg. But I also don't take it daily. She has me start prozac on day 18 of my birth control pack and take it for 2 weeks. My first period on the prozac was normal, I was suppose to start it yesterday but have yet to. I have noticed some signs of it coming though..

I started fluoxetine over a month ago for depression & my period is 4 weeks late. I haven't had my period since & my acne had gotten 10 times worse. I have no motivation & I just don't care about a lot. I'm pretty sure the medication is messing with my period.

I thought I was going through menopause at 43! I started Prozac about 9 months ago and only had 4 periods. I was previously very regular. I decided to stop taking it one I started gaining weight at an insane rate even though positive lifestyle changes were in place. It appears that I am back on schedule...to the day! There is no doubt in my mind that Prozac screwed up my cycles and my weight...giving St. John's Wort and meditation a try :) Good luck!

Hi,I know this post is really old,but I was hoping my response might help someone. It appears that Prozac lowers blood glucose levels. When you stop taking Prozac, those levels increase again, and you may develop symptoms of Polycycstic Ovarian Disease. PCOS has many symptoms and causes, but insulin resistance is thought to be a major factor. PCOS can of course cause acne, and weight gain and a host of other nasty symptoms.
When I stopped taking Prozac,I did not have a period for 3 months,and I gained 20 pounds,along with acne,and hairiness.
I had to get put on Metformin and was told I was insulin resistant. Then I started Prozac again, and my period returned and testosterone levels decreased and PCOS symptoms eased! I'm not sure the correlation here or why this occurs, but staying on the Prozac has been the only solution for me,

Sure, glad to help.I was on Prozac for about a year before I stopped.Stopping/starting the Prozac definitely seems to alter you cycle,so I would not worry if I were you.Once your body adjusts to the levels your period should be regular again.

So you're telling me that pretty much this medication permanently alters our bodies?
I stopped taking it cold turkey about 4 months ago and noticed that even though I watch what I eat I have gained some weight. I also missed my period for 3 months now and even blood work came back as negative for pregnancy. My DR has no idea what to do with me (this is literally what she told me) But i found my answer so thanks!!

Thank you for your response, I really appreciate it after a few years. I struggled badly for a while with the symptoms and my period has still not returned over two years later. I have had numerous tests and they have found cysts in my ovaries, but other than that everything "is normal," and they actually said that I do not have PCOS. After researching for months I discovered if I took progestin and spironolactone (a diuretic that acts as an anti-androgen) my acne would disappear, almost overnight. I refuse to go back on SSRI's, but I'm happy that you have found something that works. Also, I wanted to say that I eat EXTREMELY healthy--no white bread, pasta, potatoes, pizza, etc...tons of veggies and fruits, good protein. I tried to cure things through diet and other vitamins to no avail, and unfortunately I don't have the money to really do the deal, so for now I am choosing to continue with the two meds. I did try to go off of them this summer and almost overnight the cystic acne came back with a vengeance, the effects of which I am still dealing with. I have concern that I don't get my period still and they told me that if I want children some day I will have to go on meds, but I refuse to go back on Prozac. Anyways, I appreciate your response, I had no idea about the glucose levels.

I have been on Prozac since early October 2014. My first 2 periods were a little late but they came. It's now February 26, 2015 and I haven't had a period since November! It definitely is alarming. Ive taken many prego tests, all negative. I've had virtually no acne, but I have gained 10 lbs and I have an overall bloated feeling. I found the above comment about glucose very interesting. While I continue to eat healthy, I feel hungry all the freaking time! Sometimes to the point where I feel shaky, like my blood sugar is low - a problem I never had before fluoxetine. I am feeling more emotionally stable on this medication, but I'm not sure if these side effects are worth it. :

Ha!!! I've been taking anxiety med off and on for almost 10 years. I always have had messed up cycles but, nothing compares to being on prozac. Today makes day 111 of my cycle. This is just rediculous especially since my husband and I are ttc.. I feel almost normal taking the prozac but, this whole making me this late is driving me more insane than anything in the world. There's got to be a better way for women!!!!
