Hi, morphoea is also known as ‘localised scleroderma’. The expression scleroderma is used to describe state of skin and in morphea skin is hard, and this represents the main characteristic. Areas affected by morphoea are thicker and firmer than the rest of the skin. It is important to underline that morphoea is affecting only skin and doesn’t damage internal organs. However, this condition may last for many years before it’s marks go away. The cause of morphoea remains known. It is characterized by overproduction of collagen, a protein found in the fibres that give normal skin its strength.
