For the past year I have been getting really heavy periods with large liver looking bits in it. Last months period was nothing like that, it started as mucus mixed with blood and had one day of what I would call a normal period the rest of the days again mucus with blood. This month on my due date I got the same thing except its been mucus and blood only no normal period. My usual cycle is 28 days and I am 35 years old. Does anyone know what this means?

Mucus or discharge is basically there to protect inside of your uterus and vagina and it contains, among other things, old cells from these organs. It does make sense that you start having more mucus after those heavy periods with clumps of tissue – your uterus is trying to repair itself and protect the insides by lubricating them with discharge. Maybe it would be a good idea to visit your gynecologist to get something to help you regulate the bleeding and, of course, to check if there is some cause for this change.

Thanks for your reply and thanks for the helpful information.
I think your right I should go and get it looked at to see if there is any reason for the sudden change.
I will let you know what the answer is if there is one!

What was the answer? I am the same age, in the same situation but had a stillbirth two months ago. Worried it is menopause or a problem of some kind.
