It doesn't seem I was clear, the objective is NOT stretching.

This is a silly, retro thigh-master video -- But the inner thigh exercises demonstrated in the video is the motion I am referencing for these spasms.

I have suffered from the same symptoms over the years and have learned by trial and error that I'm simply not drinking enough water, days before the spasms occur.  For over a year now, I have been drinking on average a 1/2 ounce of water for every pound of body weight for an average day.  If I workout or do any hiking or yard work, then I increase my intake to about 1 ounce for every pound of bodyweight.  So, far I have not experienced the excruciating pain, since following this regiment. :-D  Appropriate hydration after experiencing spasms took on average about 3 days before the spasms totally ceased.

I am 63 and have the saame problem. Believe it or not, I have found if I sit on the toilet, it hurts to get there, the pain eases up!

I have the same problem. It started about a year ago and it feels like the inner thigh muscle is being ripped away from my bone. The one thing I do have is a large rope varicose vein in the area. I am starting to think this pain is being caused by this vein. When the vein swells it is pooling blood. Decreased blood to the muscle in this area may be causing this problem. Varicose veins can be deep in the thigh also just as internal hemorrhoids of the rectum. I have gone through child birth and this has got to be worse. I have to let it fade. When it does my muscle is sore for a few days afterwards. They come and go but at least this may be something to look at with your doctor. An ultrasound may find the cause.

I suffer exactly the same thing. I am 72. Mostly occurs after I've had a very physical day. Just agony and no matter which way you stretch or bend it just tightens more. Because of the extreme pain, you often can't even struggle to the hot shower in the hope it will ease. I'm a very tough lady and when I say this hurts...it hurts!!!

I was super hydrated sometime over the last few weeks (I've been on a cleanse) and the cramp still happened or was close to happening.. maybe not related to dehydration.

I have been trying to find out what this is related to in an effort to stop the horrific spasms and cramping described by the others here that is within the inner thigh.  I had them off and on all day yesterday and for about a year now they will come and go.  I was thinking it was because I had two crushed discs which had pressed on two nerves about two years ago and had left me completely bedridden for three weeks before I recovered and was able to walk again.  I believe it is damage from that, but must say that it is so excruciating that it is hard to describe to doctors.  When I try lying on my left side it sometimes will grab immediately and start to spasms and pull to the point that it feels my entire upper leg (especially the inner thigh) is being twisted inside and burned and drawing the muscles and nerves inside.  Turning on my back and trying to point my toes upward sometimes just makes a very slight difference but then it can just hit you at any second when you make a different move and then in addition it will sometimes make the toes cramp as well but nothing like the pain of that inner thigh spasm which leaves you sore for days.  I've tried walking on it, drinking lots of water, laying off my one glass of wine in the evening, and now am second guessing my Prevastatin meds.  The following day, the leg is so sore that it feels as though someone has beaten and bruised it.  The pain is the worst I have ever experienced in my entire life, and as so many others here have stated...I too, am one tough person with a high tolerance for pain....this is indeed a 30 on a scale of 1-10!!!

 

I would hope that if anyone here has had relief or found out what causes this that they would come back here and post for all of us who are still in the dark concerning these most horrific pains.

thanks for your quick response, I started taking 200 mg a day but will take 2 for a total of 400 mg, anyways, I've heard is good for migraines.

250 mg of magnesium -- you can see my post above or on previous page. I questioned my Prim. Phys. regarding these spasms & he said that he gets them too. Recommended that I take a magnesium supplement every day. Ever since I started it, the spasms ended. Don't know if it would work for everyone, but worth a try. Ask your Dr. first if any reason why you shouldn't take magnesium.

Saradarce! Bjorn is a genius! I can report that the technique absolutely works!!! I have been lucky enough that it has been months since I had an inner thigh spasm, but I knew thye were coming and was preparing myself for it. It has cooled off in Afghanistna, and like usual; if I am warm and toasty the moment a cool breeze touches my skin my inner thigh seizes up. It did so the other night and I immediately clamped my thighs as tightly together as I could. I cannt accurately stress enough this following statemnet. The cramp was gone in less-than-seconds! Gone. immediately. I was shocked. I was so shocked I called my sister who also suffers and poor thing it was 2am Houston time.

OMG, So I'm not the only one who experiences this. I have talked to 3 dr about this, not one can help me. Other than taking a muscle relaxer, which makes me too tired in the morning. I know this pain is so strong, many times leaves me in tears.

Wow, I finally found people who understand, everybody I spoke to about this , including Dr's, are clueless. The same story, the pain is breathtaking, beyond belief. I have frightened my family and terrified myself when I feel that tingling sensation, I know that I will soon be experiencing a pain that is worse than childbirth. It is always my inner thigh, usually my right, but it has hit my left. I am left groaning and making sounds I didn't know I was capable of. My daughter, she will come in and let me hang on her because putting my leg on the floor only causes the spasm to swell again, the worst! The onlty thing I can say is it is mercifully short, they always stop in a few minutes (which still feels like an eternity). There are some things that are in common. It always happens in early morn, waking me up. My legs have been exposed to cool air or a fan, I have either been sweating or had an alcoholic drink, and it is a few months between episodes.  I stopped taking magnesium and Calcuim and ended up having the Mother Of Them All this morn. Never again. Thanks for all your posts, I really believe it is a combo of dehydration and a Calcium and Magnesium deficiency.
