Hi, i had exactly this symptom some ten plus years ago.... After much denial and trying everything available I had a “Hip Refurbishment, ‘Birmingham Hip’, (as opposed to ‘Hip Replacement’), which removed the cause and gave me a new lease of life....reinforced by doing the other hip a year later...
Sadly, the reason I am on this site is that the symptoms have just returned at nights and I am concerned that I am again ‘Nipping a Nerve’ due possibly to some change in hip geometry.
Yours, SandyM (
Age 80....0ff to play Squash with 13 year old grandson...No problem by day...so far....

I too have suffered woth inner thigh muscle spasms very similar to yours. I haven’t found the cause, but one if my doctors prescribed 1/4 mg of Xanax. It miraculously causes spasm to subside within 5 to7 minutes. Without it, spasm would go on in varying unbearable intensities for 30 minutes. BIGGER

You will learn to chug this very awful tasting concoction. It does help. I was also pouring Theraworts (sp) which is liquid magnesium and kneading it in. Nothing has helped completely. I just have to writhe until they stop.

I get this also when I am reclined in the recliner. The pain is the worst possible, passing out, throwing up. I fear this pain. The only thing that helps me is to force my legs apart as much as possible as soon as it starts happening. I now take trace minerals which I add to my water and the frequency of onset seems to be better. Good luck!

I am a 70 year old male reading this topic about extreme muscle spasms. I read some of the replies and found one thing in common..people who have experienced the spasms when arising from a recliner chair. It's a bad habit for me to sit in a recliner to watch TV then try to get up without pain and stiffness. I had the worst inner thigh spasm of my life a few nights ago that was so painful, I asked my my wife to call 911. By the time the paramedics arrived, I was still lying on the floor afraid to get up because of the pain. By body was shaking uncontrolled  (never had that happen before). The EMT said he thought it was because I hyperventilated. The EMT's put a heat bag on my inner thigh. They also checked all of my vitals and did an EKG. After 20 minutes, the pain subsided. I have had muscle cramps and sudden spasms most of my life. I had gone on a moderately strong hike earlier that day which my doctor later said could be the trigger of the spasm and that I should always do warm up stretching before and after a hike.  BTW: I also use "pickle juice" now made for cramps. It was something discovered by the NFL years ago for players with sudden cramps...and it usually works in about 15 minutes.

Mine started after I finished a dose of Methylpred 4mg Pak. I also put a few lbs on from swelling in my ankles. Thought it was just me. It wasn't. The cramps have increased, especially during the night. I use Biofreeze in the spots that are most painful. It helps me to at least get to sleep. The side effects that I have are from the meds. You can read it online everywhere. Hope you get better. I'm just praying I do. I 'm a senior. Have enough pain already. Good luck

I too share the agony of horrific muscle spasms that wake me up at night. One suggestion I cover my legs with Theraworx foam not missing a spot. The reason why I dont miss a spot a spasm can start where I didnt spread the foam. You can buy it at some Walmarts or on Amazon its truly a game changer. Tried i tried heating pads ice stretching it still returns. Try the foam

This may sound crazy but I get these same horrible muscle spasms and I believe that is an electrolyte imbalance. I have drank pickle juice right from the jar and this causes them to subside!

I have experienced this also & the only thing that actually works for me is drinking water...I have literally crawled to the sink & as soon as I've downed almost a bottle of water the spasms stop. Sounds like an easy fix but it works every time.

I too suffer from these horrible unbelievably painful inner thigh cramps, usually as I am falling asleep in bed. You may laugh but here is what works to relieve the pain after just a few minutes. Mustard. Yes, a tablespoon of regular mustard with a drink of water to wash it down. I keep a small gel pad right by the microwave and press the heated pad onto the muscle while the mustard is digested. it is not instant but does help.
