Teree, I have the very same problem and it is a real terror when they occur during the night and I dread when it happens. When the spasm wakes me in the middle of the night, I am not prepared at the time they occur and you can't move because of the excruciating pain but it can help to elevate the whole leg and prop high on pillows. Eventually it settles down. Karen

I get the exact same cramp. It is usually at night when I'm sitting and relaxing or after I go to bed. The are excruciating painful and I have no idea what causes them. i get about 2 a month and I have to stand and massage the area with an ice pack for about 15 min. before I can even walk on the leg with the cramp. These are horrific and I just want to cry when I feel one coming on. Does anyone have a cure?

I GOTTCHA - HAD A BRUTAL ATTACK LAST NIGHT GETTING OFF COUCH. MADE ME CRY. BENT OVER ASKING GOD TO MAKE THEM STOP! NOTHING WILL STOP THESE DEMONS UNTIL THEY ARE GOOD AND READY. I GAVE UP TRYING EVERYTHING AND TRY TO JUST ACCEPT IT. I THINK IT PART OF AGEING SINCE EVERYONE I READ ABOUT IS NOT A YOUNGER PERSON. GOOD LUCK.

I have identical spasms. Straighten leg,flex foot up hard and contract thigh muscles as hard as possible. Theory is to contract opposing muscles. Breath. Attempts to stand and stretch inner thigh are usually fruitless. I have had them after taking muscle relaxer. Do u by any chance also have lumbar stenosis?

Yes I have had lumbar probs for many years, the worst being right sided sciatica. My primary dr thinks it could also be back related. I read that a woman popped sublingual vit b12 when she had them and it helped some what so i got a bottle and im ready to see if that works. unless you have these killer cramps - people just cannot comprehend the severity of the pain and the fact that you cannot even walk to get anything - pills - heating pad, etc etc. i am stuck in place and cannot move the pain gets worse when i try so i sometimes "bear down" (like your going #2 - sorry) and this eases for a just a few seconds. but doing that does not make it go away. they stop when they feel like it. i also have bad calf cramps which i can control if i jump up fast enough and point toes up really hard. no doctor has any answers. probably age related thing im 68

You have described the exact way I feel during one of these cramps. I, also have used all the remedies that have been mentioned ( potassium, PM homeopathic leg cramp tablets, quinine water, bananas, etc!). This pain is the worst pain I have ever felt and once they start, they continue sporadically for weeks/days. This is ridiculous that they don't know what do do for them! I am tempted to have my husband video tape it when it happens! It lasts long enough (15 minutes +, so there would be no problem to catch one midway through one! I, too, have had a knee replacement, about 5 years ago, and I only get this inner cramping on that thigh. ( from the inner knee, through the whole upper thigh, with it moving to my back). No position seems to allow any relief. I simply have to ride it out with screaming and cold sweats!!

I get these also and they are horrific. When they occur I take a teaspoon full of mustard and believe it or not, it takes them away and you wont get them back. It takes a couple of minutes for it to take effect, but it does relieve them. I also found pushing down on my inner leg makes it less painfull.

Keep mustard handy, take a teaspoon full when tese occur and they will disappear in a couple of minutes.

I prefer you to do simple thigh fat exercises like lunges, squats or any other exercise as walking which is the simplest one.In this way you can get rid of inner thigh spasms.

My dad had the same issue you describe 50 yrs ago and would roll around on the floor crying at night. Scared us kids and poor mom. They sent him to Mayo Clinic but no one could figure out the problem. Gave him sedatives for sleep which of course were addicting. He took them the rest of his life. Too bad no progress has been made on a treatment. It may be something inherited as I now have chronic tight muscles for no real reason. Can't get answers either. Sorry for your pain and frustration.

OMG you are not alone!!!!!!! I have had the same exact ungodly spasms in my inner thighs several times in the past nine years!!! The pain is unbelievable!!! Cannot be compared to a normal Charlie horse!!! I don't know what causes them, but they will bring me to tears also. Usually happens in bed with me also, feels like a ligament or something instead of a muscle!!! I had it happen this morning again and was home alone and was scared to death because my husband will usually rub my inner thighs vigorously with "horse linament" sp?? like Icy Hot but much much stronger!!! I am in such excutiating pain when it happens I can't get out of bed or stand or anything. You know exactly what I mean, NO WORDS can describe!!! Then my legs are so sore for days after!!! I have ms symptoms also and wonder if this can be something that goes along with MS???? Have not been definitely diagnosed yet. I take Baclofen for muscle spasms but it makes me so tired that I usually only take it at night, but that, along with the horse linament is all I know to do. Thanks for your post. I was just looking online to see if I can find any info. on what in the world this might be......

I am 59 and have been suffering for about 8 years with this problem. Its almost always my right leg that cramps but I feel it from my toes stright up to the groin area with the most tense part being the inner thigh. It won't stop no matter what I try. I am aware of the area on the thigh all the time because it is sensitive just to touch it but the cramps usually only happen when I am in bed.
Bummed that there is no help for this )-;

I can relate, I have been getting the same thing for the last 8 months. I get up every night the cramping pulls me right back down the worst is if I try to sleep with my knees bent to my chest. I immediately have to straighten my legs, the problem is they keep constricting and the pain is so bad until I can get up and try and walk it out. Last Thursday night I was walking one out and my right foot cramped under me and I fell hit my head on the entertainment center I think I was out for maybe 2 hours. The headache was awful the bruise on upper right is huge. These cramps are getting worse and happening more often, they happen in both legs and leave my legs sore to touch.

I, too, have had this happen for the past several years. Just last night it happened in both legs at the same time. I feel your pain - literally! I don't recall this happening in both legs, ever. Since going to a NUCCA Chiropractor, I am happy to say the frequency has been reduced to maybe once or twice a year. What you describe is exactly what I experience. Even to the point of extreme sensitivity to the touch the day after. It does seem to happen when my sciatica acts up, which it did a day or two ago. It is my belief the two are connected. If I have no pain on either side of my lower back, I don't recall having leg spasms. In my case, it seems the sciatic inflammation comes first, then the spasm. I do highly recommend a NUCCA Chiropractor (The focus of the NUCCA/National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association/work is the relationship between the upper cervical spine (neck) and its influence on the central nervous system and brain stem function.) and you can get more information by searching for NUCCA. The best to you, as I know exactly what you are experiencing.
