My mom's personality has changed over the past 6 months. On my last visit home, she appeared to have difficulty following simple written directions (following short recipes), she, at times, could be seen just standing and staring, she has begun to lose her appetite and she repeats herself. She has also lost interest in the 3 things she used to love: reading, cooking and sewing. She also seems to find excuses to not leave the house, and I noticed she appeared very uncomfortable when out in public. Yet, after speaking with her via phone on another day, she seems "normal". I'm concerned that her personality change is a sign of possible dementia, but I'm confused that she sounds "normal" on other days. It may be because on the phone it is easier to cover. If you have had experience with dementia is it possible this could be early signs? What concerns me is her lost desire to do what she loves and her social avoidance, but maybe that is just a sign of aging?

I I almost jumped for joy after reading what you had wrote... My mother has the same kind of things going on. We have taken her to doc's and they think she is fine... but she isn't! They think she seems normal while she is there... it has to be because they don't get to see how she really acts! Let me give you a little history on my mother: About 5 years ago she went into a diabetic coma for unknown reasons... she isn't a diabetic. So, her dementia is obviously related to the coma because she acted totally fine before it happened.

I'm very sorry that you are having to go through this. It is so difficult to see someone you love so much go down hill like this.

I don't know what else to do or where to turn. I will continue looking on the internet to find answers... I will send you anything I find that may help.
