My sister in law is in the hospital and she has been diagnosed with walking pneumonia. She has been in the hospital for almost two weeks. She is on life support. She can't breathe on her own. They have tried to take her off at least 3 or 4 times and have been unsuccessful. She pulled the life support tubes out on Friday of this week. She was without oxygen for a good 45 minutes and I was wondering if this had any affect on her brain? When they have her sedated and you are in there talking to her, she tries to turn over, open her eyes, and she reaches for your hand.

They said that they may have to put a tracheotomy in order for her to breathe and they also said that she may be on this for the rest of her life. Can you please tell me what is going on with her?
