Five days after my procedure I was eating burritos. Also, get the liquid vicodin with codeine as part of your pain meds. First few days keep it simple. You could do smoothies on the first day, or mashed potatoes. You just don't want things that will irritate your already sore throat. No citrus or really spicy things. Easily chewed foods. I love soup, so I did that too. Get some popsicles. And drink LOTS of water. I had a timer to make sure I was drinking enough water. Even in the middle of the night I kept to my meds and water schedule. You take the stuff BEFORE you feel discomfort. They idea is to head it off at the pass. :-)

I get nauseated taking pain meds if I don't eat were you able to eat enough to get the meds down?

I didn't have a problem with nausea and pain meds, and I didn't have a problem with food. Like I said, keep the first couple days simple. They've already given you pain meds when you wake up. I set a timer for my meds and took them like clockwork. Stay ahead of the pain. And again, I suggest liquid pain meds, cuz it's easier to swallow. Talk to the doc, and see what they have for nausea.

Thank you so much, you have been a wealth of knowledge. One more thing did you have to sleep sitting up to avoid swelling and so forth? I am really sorry to ask so many questions but there is not a lot of information out there regarding from a patient perspective. I too, am like you a big baby on pain. I am just trying to find out as much info as I can so that I can prepare myself for this.

Hi Erik,
I have intended to write my experience with Tissue Welding Tonsillectomy. I want to thank you-because of you I had the procedure nearly five months ago and I was so thankful that you posted your video about the experience. It was totally the way to go. I had it done at 31 and it was a way easier recovery than have my wisdom teeth out. Hopefully I can type something up eventually about the recovery time but for now I just want you to know how much your advice helped my family! I had it done in Portland, OR. DR. Hertler. Was booking my flight to have it done with DR. Sigari when Microline called me back informing me that there was indeed a surgeon close to home!
Thanks again,
Melissa

This is Melissa (I posted above). I didn't have any tounge pain (made sure to tell the anesthesiologist that I was very fearful of pain from the clamp). He obviously listened. Honestly I don't remember ear pain. Days 4-7 were the hardest and I kept on half dose of the pain meds so that may have kept the ear pain away.

Hello,
Thank you for your post. I was wondering how you are feeling a month after your surgery. How was your experience with DR Krespi. I am located in NJ and am looking for a dr for this procedure.
Thanks,
Mike

Thanks to this post and the commenter from Portland, I just had my tonsils removed yesterday via tissue welding by Dr Hertler (who I cannot recommend enough!). I had to stay overnight because of my sleep apnea, but only asked for pain meds (morphine) twice at full strength - once right out of the surgery and right before bed - and once at partial strength because I was uncomfortable and didn't want to go to sleep. Today is the first day post-op and I've survived on extra strength Tylenol until tonight when the pain got too unbearable. (I don't like how the oxycodone makes me feel, so I've been trying to get around not using it.) I ate yogurt, applesauce, ice cream, and popsicles for dinner the first night. I had a few bites of scrambled egg, too, until my stomach started roiling. Today I ate a cheese quesadilla successfully. At best, it's an uncomfortable store throat like when you have a child and at worst it is the worst sore throat (think: strep) you've ever experienced. All the nurses were shocked at how little pain medication I was asking for and what I was eating. Until tonight I've felt pretty good. Tongue hurts from clamps and arms from the multiple iv sites, but otherwise I'm doing pretty well! Will update as the days progress....

Does anyone know of a doctor in the Schaumburg area of Illinois who does the tissue welding procedure?
