I am 56 years old and have been suffering from knee osteoarthritis for the past 4 years. Unfortunately, my form of osteoarthritis has progressed very fast and now the medications are not helping. I have been on physical treatments too, but with no effect. And now, it seems that I will need arthroplasty for my problem. What kind of procedure is that?

It is a relatively complex procedure because the cartilage is changed with the appropriate material in order to prevent the contact between the bones (this is the function of the cartilage). Without it, the parts of the bones that are included in the joint would be damaged and cause a lot of pain.
